AirNationalGuardMom Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 I want to make some trivets but I don't know what to finish them with. Any ideas? Linda Quote
Travis Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 LOL. I had a bookmark on Absolutely Free Scroll Saw Patterns that covered this very topic. Boy, I wish they were still around. fEZ would be the guy to ask. He's done a number of trivets. I'm guessing an oil finish would work well. I'd be afraid of poly as it might melt. But oil should handle the heat pretty good. Just guessing, though. Quote
Christina Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 I would think you'd use the same oil that you would use on wooden spoons/utensils...............don't really know for sure. You're not eating off of it so any oil is probably good. Christina Quote
realfEZ Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Hi Linda, I have a couple of trivets that are in use, one is in my kitchen and one is at my mother's. I couldn't figure out what to use really, because of heat, humidity and fat conditions. One of them I've used - Mahogany stain, - 01 apply-and-wipe Clear varnish coat. The other one was left as is. They're both feeling all right so far. Quote
AirNationalGuardMom Posted February 22, 2009 Author Report Posted February 22, 2009 Thank you realfez. Linda Quote
jowshu Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I've made a couple of trivets and finished them off with Danish oil. Haven't has any complaints or heard any problems. Don Quote
