jerry1939
rjR was kind enough to post this site. http://www.pozsgaidesigns.com/index.htm I use FD UR blades. Decided to check this out. Interesting !! He sells Olson Precision Ground for $36.50 per gross. Olson Mach Series for $28. Clicked on Mike's Workshop and got a huge WARNING !! screen from my anti virus stating "Don't go there!" Went to Wooden Teddy Bear. 1 gross of FD UR # 5 is $42 Both sites are "Plus S&H" My question are; 1. Is this a No Brainer? or 2. Do you get what you pay for? I use mostly FD UR # 5 & 3. All Comments appreciated!!!!! If I switch to Olson, which is a better substitute compared to the FD UR # 5? Thanks a bunch. jerry

MrsN
I like both Flying Dutchman and Olson blades. You might want to consider ordering a dozen or two to try out before you commit to a full gross. One of the types of Olson are a little weird and take some getting used to. I think it was the precision ground series.
Scrappile
I just went to Mike's, no problem, no warning message Went to Wooden Teddy Bear looked at FD UR #5 at gross pricing 12 x $2.80 - $33.60. WTB is a little confusing and you were looking at price per dozen they are $3.50 per doz. if you buy 1 - 11 doz $3.50 X 12 = $42 If you look below where you went to order per doz it will have same heading except it say "gross pricing" or something like that, that is where you will see $2.80 per doz pricing. I think WTB could make there way of ordering somewhat less confusing, they could just copy Mike's Workshop method, they own it. If you ask how I know this, I went through the same thing last time I ordered blades. Wanted to buy from WTB because I thought Mike's would probably be discontinued after a while. Figured the price as you did and wondered, why would anyone buy from WTB when I could get them from Mike's so much cheaper, and even more confusing why would WTB let Mike's be so much cheaper, when they own both sites? Then I went back to WTB's site to recheck the price and figured out how they do it on the WTB site the second time I was there. Iguanadon
I personally prefer Olson, the Precision Ground #5 are excellent. I wish they made a PG #3 but since they don't. so I use the Mach #3 and I buy them by the gross. Edited August 14, 2016 by Iguanadon
Dan
I also like both blades. Just like everyone else, Mike's Workshop link is fine and the price is $33.60 for a gross. If you haven't tried one brand or the other, just do it and see for yourself which you prefer. Either way you are getting quality blades. Denny Knappen
I also ordered from Mike's Workshop recently with no problems.
jerry1939
Thanks All. You are the best. Tried Googling Mike's instead of clicking it in Favorites. My anti virus still doesn't like it. I would like to take this opportunity to refrain from sharing with you what I REALLY think of computers and all this new fangled technology. jerry Old Joe, Mark SW and Scrolling Steve
Scrappile
Know what you mean, Jerry, but it is what we have now days, and there are some real benefits also, like being able to have this forum and places to buy things other then what is in your local. I could only get junk blades locally. I learn what my fuzzy brain will accept and remain totally confused about what it will not accept. Lucky2
Jerry, we all have our personel favorites, they may not be of any use to you. I think that you should do a bit of trial and error, buy some Olson blades to try out. I use the FD brand of blades, I used to use Olson's but switched after trying out the FD blades for the first time. I was so impressed with the FD blades, that I made an arrangement with Mike to sell them. They were good sellers, and I would liked to have kept selling them, but, due to personal reasons I had to quit. Len

Thanks a bunch. jerry Hi Jerry I've use mikes scroll reverse for years and years. Then i ran out of blades an money and Ike and Hotshot donated lots of blades for me Ike 's were spirals which i havent use yet but hotshots precision ground skip reverse tooth #10/7 Didn't last as long as mikes by hours .I'd get a good 3 hours out of mikes blades and would still cut but i'd have to push harder.I've had the best luck with mikes,
heppnerguy
I too use both brands and for me, they both seem about the same.. maybe I don't pay enough attention to them but if I do not like a particular blade for some reason or another, I just try to remember not to order that particular one again. everyone has their own favorite blade and none is the 'best' blade or no one would have a need to make other sizes and styles. CharleyL
Mikes Workshop is now Wooden Teddy Bear. Mike sold the business. I guess they are keeping the website open because so many people continue to order from the Mikes Workshop Website. In fact, I heard that Mike has now passed on. ike
I prefer olsons have used both but the Olson's are more convent for me I buy them at Menards I am in the area an the weekly basis. There is not much difference between them .It's just what you prefer. ike
NC Scroller
I use both and I get both from The Wooden Teddy Bear. Both have pluses and minuses. I find the Olson PGT more aggressive then the FD-UR but to me they dull faster. So I use the Olson on the thicker hardwoods (1/2" or greater) and I use the FD-UR on plywood and thinner stock. Even plywood and thinner stock that is stack cut. Like several others I recommend you experiment. What works for some will not work for others.
