savethebeer
Russell, Thanks again for your very quick upload of a pattern. As I had said previously I felt the need to add in 'new home' and the 's' after Dave. The extras were done by pencil and ruler and its sort of an Old Irish font. I finished it about 10 minutes ago, haven't sanded it yet, and am still unsure what finish to apply. Has anyone ever had a sudden realisation that your relationship to the person who you are doing the gift for has a definite effect on what you are willing to let go of. What I mean is there are several little things about this project that I'm not happy with, including a little breakthrough and a broken corner in the 'W' of new, but I said to myself 'sure it'll do'. Previously I have dumped or totally altered previous projects because of similar issue because they were for people who were important to me. Anyway, this is it. I am going to go with your previous suggestion of using a knotted rope to hang it. amazingkevin

Lucky2
No Bob, I'd never do a "sure it'll do" cutting to give to someone else, especially, if it's got an issue as obvisous as the w in this piece. People aren't blind, I actually think some of them have magnifying eyes that can see a mistake in no time. If you can see the error, be guarenteed they and others can see it also. What kind of impression of your work, do you think that leaves them with? If it's not perfect or near perfect it doesn't leave my shop. It took years to earn my reputation, I'll be damned if I'm going to wreck it by putting out sub-par work. Len

Birchbark
Ha! Love it. I think it came out great. As for the 'W' it is hardly noticeable. I'm sure your friend will have it displayed for many years to come, even when the house isn't New anymore. That font is a little thin that you added, you probably knew it was going to be risky. I think you did a great job cutting it, Thank you for taking the time to post a picture for us. Much appreciated. Russell danny

savethebeer
Just letting you all know that it was very well received from both Louise & Dave, plus all their families earlier today. The funniest part was their reaction when I said I got the idea from friends from all over the world [that's you lot]. So just a reminder to appreciate the fact that big huge though the internet is, the village is so personal and friendly.
