tonylumps
First time using Rosewood.I have a piece 7/8 thick .Plan on cutting a cross with it. I was thinking about using #7 UR for a few inside cuts and a #9 UR for the perimeter. What kind of finish. Treat it like other Hardwoods. This piece of wood is very dense.Think the Hegner will meet it's match. Thanks Tony Edited August 20, 2016 by tonylumps
dgman
Tony, be careful with Rosewood as it can be quite an irritant. Not many woods bother me, but Rosewood definitely does. Wear a dust mask and maybe even gloves. As for finish, you may not even need a finish as the wood will polish up very nicely. You definitely do not need to stain or oil it, just a top coat to protect it. Scrolling Steve and Lucky2

That was what I was thinking of a coat of good of wax or should I try a harder finish.I do have all dust blowing away from me and a good dust collector Edited August 20, 2016 by tonylumps
Lucky2
Tony, Dan is right about Rosewood being an irritant, make sure you protect yourself. For Rosewood, it would be better to not use the fan. Let the sawdust fall where it may then vacumn it up, this is dust you don't want in the air you breathe. Wear gloves, and use a respirator just to be safe. Len amazingkevin and WayneMahler
WayneMahler
Use protection please. Dust mask and gloves. A good filtration system. Beautiful wood but has it's draw backs.
fastfreddy
Didn't know I needed to be so careful around rosewood. I do wear a dust mask but never actually considered wearing gloves. I considered rosewood for some of my future projects. I'm fairly new and I try to visit everyday to learn and pickup information. Pattying myself on the back for checking daily right now. Just want to thank all you seasoned scrollers for helping/ educating us newbies with that sort of information. Info to go under do's and don'ts in my note book. tonylumps
I cut the Rosewood and it cut like Butter with very smooth cuts .I have been experimenting with the finish and came down to 2.A natural finish with a fine sanding and Dark Bri-wax or I really like the look of a very thin coat of Shellac with a fine sanding before and after.I used Acid tone wipe before the coat of Shellac It feels natural without being oily as apposed to a wax finish.
