Hello Everyone,

My name is GrannyJo and I’ve just joined the group. Retired in 2000 and live in Virginia. Came across this group surfing for Inkscape tutorials. I do woodworking as a hobby or gifts or something I want or need. Making clocks, using my scrollsaw and embroidery machine are my favorite pastimes.

Thank you Travis for the very well done Inkscape video tutorials. Easy to understand and the music at the beginning is just long enough to adjust my speakers. Hopefully, I will be able to make some interesting patterns for my scrollsaw as well as the embroidery machine.

Look forward to viewing the rest of everyone’s work, all the patterns you have come up with and asking questions from all the very knowledgeable woodworkers.

Hi GrannyJo. Welcome to the Village. We're glad you found us. There are lots of friendly and talented folks here. I think you'll fit right in. ;) I'm glad you enjoyed the Inkscape tutorials. It seems like pattern-designing has been a closely guarded secret for some time. It's nice to have instructions on how it applies directly to your hobby. And once you get the feel for it, it all becomes pretty easy. Anyway, welcome aboard. Jump in and have some fun!

Thank you for the welcome. This is a good time to give pattern making a try. Too cold here to get in the woodshop. It has the old style baseboard heat and it makes the meter zing. When I first installed Inkscape I worked through a few tutorials but managed to get stuck a couple times. The videos really made the program come alive. Most sure I will have a lot of questions about woodworking techniques.

Thanks again,

GrannyJo

Hi Clark,

Thank you for the welcome. I've read through most of the posts and can see that there are a nice group of folks here. Yep, snow is coming, National Weather Service predicts about 7" total here in Waynesboro. My snowblower is full of gas, truck in under the carport, have groceries and the dog has food. My daughter lives in Moneta so I visit Roanoke often. Next time I'm there I want to visit the Woodcraft store.

I finished the Dome clock just before Thanksgiving and lighted it with 1/12 scale lights. Don't think I want to take on another large project like that one. I haven't been able to get a good picture of it without having a glare. Maybe someone can give me a suggestion how to set my camera. (Sony Cyber-shot)

The best way to get a glare free picture is not to use the flash. If the glare is comeing from the installed lights try turning off the room lights and again not to use the flash and use a tripod for the "dark" picture to help prevent blurring. If that does not work let me know. By the way which cyber-shot is it?
