I definitely think that it is better to finish a piece prior to mounting it to the background, but not sure i would want to finish it by individual pieces.

WoW, you did a great job on that piece. I never tried intarsia before but I'm always tempted. Not sure if I could do that type of cutting.

I am not a scroller, but my guess is that the cutting is very much the same. It actually does not have to be as exact because the shaping and sanding will account for the mis cuts. My dad said I can not use cuss words if I get off the line, instead I just say "challenge"

Well done on that piece.  The fit, shaping and finish are right on.  What is the size?

The bird is pretty small. This comes from a pattern that includes a flower in it. I would guesstimate the longest wing span to be about 8 to ten inches. It is pretty small.

LOVE IT!!!  That is beautiful!  I know so many people in my family that would cherish it.  Very nicely done.  I agree with Denny, what are the dimensions?  Keep up the great work!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. It is a small piece, only about an 8 to 10 inch wing span.

Sweet! I love making humming birds , great job on this one. If I may make one suggestion, blacken the eye. Burnish a piece of walnut or I have also used a magic marker with a gloss finish just on the eye. It will really make things pop.

Thanks I will be sure to do that before I give it to her/
