hawkeye10
Seyco has a new made in 1996 EX19 VS scroll saw for $500 plus shipping and that might be the deal breaker. If you have an opinion I would appreciate hearing it as I know nothing. Thanks OCtoolguy

hotshot
I just don't know what Ray is thinking, trying to sell a non-supported saw for $500. I'm kind of hoping he was on vacation and a employee did this without his knowledge. Ray has repeatedly said that parts were not available for the older saws, so I can't imagine this one is an exception. For a bit more money, a EX16 could be purchased . . . . once they are back in stock. Or a New DW788 complete with warranty. I was very surprised to see some of the older saws listed on the site, especially at those prices. I would not risk buying anything earlier than the Purple EX-21, and especially for those prices. Holey moley! ps. I'm sorry if all this seems a little harsh, I get a little hot about stuff like this, similar to when I see listing on Craigslist asking $700 for an old scroll saw worth $50, or anything that is really out of whack, intended to rip off folks that don't know the value or lack thereof. So, that said, I purchased my EX from Ray and greatly respect him, however, this feels unethical, like preying on those that don't understand the relative value of stuff. When I send someone to Seyco saying, "hey, I know these guys and they will treat you right", then see something like this, I feel a little betrayed. Lucky2
Rant on Randy, I agree. With spare parts not being available any longer, I don't understand what he's up to. It's a good way for him to ruin his cred, hopefully, he is letting any perspective buyers know about no repair parts being available for these saws. GrampaJim
I have seen a couple of these old versions of Excalibur's on Craigslist for $700 and the comments are always about the new ones are twice the price. LOL Randy is correct - Pass on this. OCtoolguy
Rolf
I have to agree with you on this Randy. Unless he has a stash of spares for this saw. OCtoolguy

I feel the same way you do. There are several people on this forum that live in Tennessee but you are the closest one. We will have to meet for coffee one mourning. rjweb
Maybe with no ex saws in stock to sell, he still has to make a living, so sell what he has. It was just resent that I fist saw the used stuff on site for sale, same time the exs are out of stock, but I also agree with you on his motive, thx RJ OCtoolguy

dgman
Never heard of the EX-19, just the 16 & 21. Love my EX-21. The EX 19 is one of the original Excalibur saws made in Canada which means it is at least 15 and maybe 20 years old. As was mentioned above, there are no replacement parts available for it. Eugene Downes
I bought my EXcalibur EX-19SVS 10-29-1996 and paid a total of $1095.00 through SEYCO. I used it every day for several hours a day for a good number of years and here it is now June 2019 and my saw finely broke down about Jan. of this year (not bad for an "old" obsolete scroll saw. I've owned quite a few different brand scroll saws over the years and my EX-19 was the best saw I owned. If I could have bought that saw for $500.00 that was mentioned I would have jumped on it. It was the Connecting Rod Part #S162C011 that broke (after 23 years) in my saw and that part is no longer available. The price of the saw was $995.00 with stand and foot switch, $65.00 for the Pedal Arm Lift and $35.00 for shipping and handling. That was the 1996 price. Scrappile
@Eugene Downes, you could probably get a new Connecting Rod machined by a machinist for around the $995 at today's prices....! What was the "Pedal Arm Lift"? I assume it was a mechanism to lift the arm, but what does it look like? OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
I'm curious. I just went to the Seyco website and I can't find anything for "used" saws or anything else. Where do they list used stuff? kmmcrafts

Eugene Downes
Sorry I don't have a good picture showing the foot pedal foot lift. It was a metal pedal mounted to the stand under the saw that had a cable attached to it that ran up through sets of pulleys and attached to the back of the upper liftable arm. When the upper blade was released you could step on the pedal and that would lift the upper arm leaving both your hands free to insert the blade into a new hole. Eugene Downes
Went out and took a picture of the foot pedal. You can see the cable attached that runs up to a pulley at the front and then all the way back to another pulley that routes the cable up to the top arm at the back of the arm. You can also see that I use foot on - off switch to run my saw. Also shown is the Connecting Rod that broke after 23 years of use. Rolf
It would be worth visiting small local machine shops. To see if they could duplicate the part for you. They may ask for a drawing. OCtoolguy and Eugene Downes

This was a letter sent to me from Ray concerning my Escalibur Thanks for the email and yes I would agree the EX-19 VS was a really rugged saw. I hated to see them discontinued when the tilt head came out and the tilting head saw's popularity just took over completely. If you decide to replace give me a call and let's see what we can do for you since you bought it from us 23 years ago. If we could get parts and rebuild it you could probably get another 23 years out of it! Our Seyco ST-21 is getting really good reviews and we are getting but good customer feedback on it. Was looking through some of my old patterns today and ran across this old booklet showing the foot lift in use. You can see that the person in the picture disconnected the blade from the bottom blade holder allowing the blade to be lifted with the top arm letting you use both hands to guide the blade back down into any new hole as the upper arm is lowered. Hi Eugene, I hope this message finds you well and still in the shop. I have an EX 19 I was given in trade for replacing a furnace, however, it has been collecting dust in my shop. I had to machine the lower blade set screw as it was stripped but it's in great working order otherwise. If you're still looking for one, get in touch with me and I'll send you some pictures and whatnot. Mark F. OCtoolguy

I would not pay more than 50$ for this saw. OCtoolguy
