jbrowning Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Hello everyone, I'm almost caught up on my race pictures so I'm headed out to the old garage to make some sawdust. But before I started I wanted to ask a question. I will be cutting out a couple of race tracks out of 3/4" plywood (that I have laying around in my way). I will be putting a wood stain on it and now I'm thinking about burning the corner numbers in on it. Wood (ha ha ha) I burn first then stain or stain then burn? Thanks Jim Quote
Scrappile Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 I would burn first. I might be sorry, but that is the way I would do it. Now maybe some experts will respond with the correct answer. Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Not an expert , but I'm with Paul.....burn then stain. Quote
NC Scroller Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 Burn first. Burning is a good way to also separate areas that are being stained and not stained or being stained another color. Quote
Debi Shipman Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 My daughter stains then burns. If you burn first the stain covers it up giving it less "pop." If you burn after you stain be sure to wear a mask of some sort. Quote
Lucky2 Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 My buddy burns first, he says that the smoke is to toxic with the staining being done first. Plus he says that with the staining being done first, it affects the look of the burn. Len Quote
WayneMahler Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) I would think burn first then stain.Never tried it but sounds right to me. Seems others agree too ` Edited September 5, 2016 by WayneMahler Quote
jbrowning Posted September 5, 2016 Author Report Posted September 5, 2016 Thanks everyone, and here is a link to what I cut out today. I cut out about 5 or 6 of them. Now time to try and finish them somehow. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/20705-my-first-half-way-successful-attemp-at-a-form-of-wordart/ Thanks Jim Quote
