thanks guys.  It is unfinished at this point.  I like the wood to talk - my daughter thinks maybe paint it.  I think that would be a pity. So we wait and see who prevails.

I think I would give that a good soak in lemon oil or Danish oil and make it really hard for someone to paint over it.  Be a shame to lose the look of the wood.

Where do I get lemon oil - I have been wondering for a while.

Monti, don't use lemon oil, it never fully drys. Use a product that is designed as a wood finish like Danish oil or a BLO/mineral spirits mix. Lemon oil is a cleaner and polish.

I know, Steve Good uses it, but it's not the right product to use!
