I am buying new Dewalt this month. Should I buy the Dewalt stand or make my own work bench? What do experieinced scroll sawers find to be most comfortable?

My first thought is to buy the Dewalt stand and attach wheels so I can move it around my cluttered garage. I will defintely attach a magnifying light and a foot control based on my readings in this forum. I am 70 and not too agile and the vision is not what it once was.

I am a newbie and very thankful that this forum exists

Hello,

I have a Hegner, and I prefer to make my own bench for it, so I can put my saw on the hight i want to.

For now it's on an old table, but I'll make one in MDF. I just have to assemble it, the MDF is already sawed

but I have to find some time now

On that bench I have place for a lamp and my sawblades etc.

When it's finished I post some pics.(Hopeful this week)

I think that either would be fine. Be careful attaching wheels as they should be the retractable kind. I have a mobile base for one of my saws and it seems to work fine. You also might want to consider elevating the rear of the saw for ease of use. Make sure to attach the light so it doesn't receive vibration as that will surely play hob with your vision. Good luck with your new saw.

Most of the time, the stands that the manufacturer offers are designed in such a way to minimize vibration. If you can afford it, I would go that route. If you buy from Grizzly, it comes with a stand and light. Heck of a good deal, IMO. The difference in price between the saw with no stand/light and the saw with the light & stand is only $30.
