heppnerguy
My daughter, Theresa, is trying to get me to do a craft show with her this year. Most of you already know that I do not do craft shows, but she will not take no for an answer. so I am cutting some patterns for consideration. Since I do not enter these shows, I have no idea what will sell. I cut this Sue Mey pattern today to show her, tomorrow. My wife suggested that I not put a backer board on these.. My question is,,,,,,is this an item worth cutting for such and event ? and do I put a backer board on it or not ? Lucky2
Dick, that is a perfect example of what you should be cutting for crafts sales. I've cut this pattern a few times, I stack cut 4 of them at a time. They were great sellers for me, I had a hard time keeping up to demand for them. I did put a backer on the ones I made, it made them look more complete and they looked better. I sold the ones I made for $25.00 each. They were made out of 1/8"bb plywood for the backer, and 1/8" mahogany for the face these ones I didn't paint. The best sellers for me, were the ones I made with mirror backers. If you make them out of contrasting woods, you don't need to use any paint. Len heppnerguy
dgman
It looks real delicate. I think it might need a backer board. If I was cutting this, I would of cut the backer at the same time so it will fit exactly to the piece. If it's not as delicate as it looks, you will get by without a backer. heppnerguy
DWSUDEKUM
Dick that is great. Lovely cutting. Add a little colorful christmas type ribbon and you have a wonderful ornament. If you have a couple of different ones you might think of cutting small groups. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW heppnerguy

Fab4
Hi Dick: Dan (dgman) said it best - go back to post # 3 Don't you ever ask us again for our opinion after SWMBO told you what she thought You trying to start a war???...............LOL.............just kidding!!! Good luck with your pesky daughter....lol As far as the craft show, I say "GO FOR IT" you may be pleasantly surprised You'll have to figure out what sells in your area - What sells here may not be as good as where you are. Looks like you're on the right track Fab4
Dave Monk
Dick, It sounds to me like your daughter has you wrapped around her finger like mine has. Impossible to say no. I have been doing a Farmers Market every Saturday since the middle of May. I totally love doing it. It is so hard to know what is going to sell. One week sports and the next week not. I try to have a good variety to try to appeal to a wide spectrum. The sweat spot for me is between $20 and $30. Have fun with it. dave heppnerguy

daveww1
that's very nice, I think I'd put a backer on it
Debi Shipman
I think (with my very limited experience) that it needs a backer. Although I will differ from most other opinions and say that you should paint the backer a med. to darker blue and keep the cutting a lighter color. That way it will look like a dusk/night snow scene. heppnerguy

rjR
Dick, where is that craft show? Your work will sell. If the show is in this area; i will check it out too.
Scrappile
I would cut several, put backers on some, maybe different colors. try acrylic on one or two and leave some without. Now, get busy on it. Darn daughters anyway, always wanting you to work. When I go see my daughter she has a list of projects for me. She thinks keeping me busy is good. What is wrong with her?? hawkeye10
I vote for a backer. If a customer picks it up and breaks it then you lose. Have a great time.

Sparkey
I see a craft show in your near future. You know you can't say no to your daughter. Hope you both do good at the show.
heppnerguy
We came to an agreement where I will do the cutting and she will do the finishing. Her ideas differ from mine as she wants to colorized everything but I asked her to do at least half of them with only a black backer board because I really don't want to have people asking me t colorized what I do. Takes more time and I try to keep my prices reasonable. Dick Heppnerguy
