rdatelle
Hi everyone, I just finished this cross yesterday. It's 17 x 11 made out of 1/2 inch Oak with 1/8 BB backer painted black. I put a coat of BLO on it then a coat of Danish Oil. I mused a #3 reverse blade on this also. This is a Sue Mey pattern. Not sure if I should put a couple of coats of Gloss Poly on it to or just leave it the way it is. I'm keeping this piece for me to because I'm a retired firefighter. Hope you like it. lawson56, GPscroller, Smudger and 4 others

meflick
That is a beautiful piece of work. I am glad you are keeping it for yourself. So often we make things and never keep any of them. Thanks for your service as a Firefighter. Having had my family home burn when I was in college, I appreciate all the work firefighters do. More unsung heroes that protect us!

Scrappile
That is a great job. If it was me, I'd do a coat or two of poly. Make it easier to get dust off.
RangerJay
You do consistently great cuttings Ralph - always very precise and always great to look at - well done. Personally I would put a few coats of poly on - my own preference obviously - but I have always like the edges softened and multiple coats of poly help to do that - and I very much like the sheen created by a buffed and polished finish. Thanks, Jay
Debi Shipman
That's fantastic! I love it. My dad was a firefighter for over 25 years and I spent a lot of hours hanging out at the station. I've been working on a memorial pattern for him. rdatelle
Thanks everyone for the compliments. Paul I was thinking about putting a few coats of poly on it. Still might do that. Kepy, I was thinking of a red backer to, seeing that it was for firefighting. I should of put it on here first with both backers and see what everyone thought. Ron Johnson
Fabulous and a beautiful cross Ralph. I would apply a semi or gloss poly finish. Black backer looks great but a red backer may be more effective. Well done.

rdatelle
I knew I should of put a red backer on it. Don't Know what I was thinking. The black backer is already glued on. Not sure if I could get it off without messing it up. Edited September 11, 2016 by rdatelle
