More bad news and good news.

I will tell the bad news first. On the way back from Franklin which is around 30 miles from where I live the transmission wnt out on my truck. I was on a two lane road with very little shoulder. I finally made it to a place so I could pull over and then I walked about 200 yards where I borrowed a cell phone and called my wife. So now the truck is towed and I am home and have been playing with my new EX 16. Man you talking about smooth and quite.    My DW788 must have been in really bad shape. But I did buy it new and new it was junk. So there you go a bad day and a good day.

PS - No I don't have a cell phone and don't really want one. Money for cell phones equals less money for tools.   :grr:

We are in our 70s and ALWAYS carry a TracFone. Buy $100 worth of minutes every year. We each have a balance of over $300 of unused minutes.

We consider it a good insurance policy to have in case of an emergency. My old phone died and bought a new one from Verizon for $50. They set it up, transfer unused minutes and go to them annually to add our "new minutes." You can buy minutes for fewer months at a time. The time runs out, but not the unused minutes. The Sweet Wife also texts the children with hers.

I agree Jerry but I am also hard of hearing. Over 90% of the time I don't get 5 or 10 miles from the house. I think I might start using my wife's cell when I take a trip. (If she will let me)   :)

Don, I don't own a cell phone either, isn't it funny some of the faces people make when you tell them that. Some of them look at me as if I was growing horns, I even had one person tell me that they never heard of the like. He says he couldn't imagine being without one, I told him he had a very bad imagination and reminded him of landlines, and house phones.

You must have got a lemon 788. I have a 788 and it is quiet and smooth. I did cut a little on a EX 16 that was a display at Woodcraft. If I have to buy another saw it will be the EX. Congrats.

Rusty I am quite sure I did get a lemon. There are to many people on this forum that are happy with their DW788.

I'm so glad you got the EX, I think you will be happy with it.

The Road to Franklin from Murfreesboro, I know it well and it scares the crap out of me.  I always wondered what I would do if I broke down.  The ditches are straight down, so no place to pull over.  I usually take 840, which is a bit longer, but safer I think.

For about an hour my truck was half on the road and half off. Traffic was pretty heavy. After the transmission cooled off I made it 500 feet to a place where I could pull off. I bet a bunch of people were mad at me for holding them up.

i own a w788 and it's the only saw you can cut a project without the blade being under tension.I forget many times to tighten it and am amazed how much i cut like that.No Chinese saw will do that
