pushing my envelope

I have been looking at this sitting Santa pattern for a long time and thinking that I would love to be able to cut, but it is above my skill level. After I visited with Scrappile and saw all his wonderful and amazing things that he cuts, I decided that I need to go ahead and challenge myself, a little. This in mind, I decided this afternoon to give it a try. This was after I have a piece break off on a patter that was quite a big easier than this one, but what the heck. can't give up just because I loose one now and then, so I went for it. I cut this one in 1/8th inch BB Birch and use a 3/0 spiral blade. I was so happy when I finished it and no broken pieces. The face area is made up of really small and intriquet lines that challenged me, but I did it and I feel pretty good about it. I just took the photo in a somewhat dim lighting so it came out a little fuzzy but I plan to post the finished piece when I get it finished. I plane on using a red back ground and I may try to make another frame for it, not sure about that, yet.

The Santa looks great Dick.  Good for you for taking the risk.

i an sure you noted that when doing those tiny dangly bits, the place where it will breal is the unsupported areas that are getting vibrations from the blade.  for me thats always over the opening where the blade goes into the table.

I use one of those playing cards you get from casinos that have a hole punched in the middle of them.  Clear tape it to the table and run the blade up through the hole.

it cuts that vibrarting unsupported area way down.

Thanks for the tip.  I am well aware of the zero clearance and I guess I should probably should again use them as when a piece breaks, it is not a fun experience. I used to use them but have not bothered to do it yet on these..I think I should take your advice and do it again as I am now trying to cut more delicate pieces.
