Popular Post heppnerguy Posted September 21, 2016 Popular Post Report Posted September 21, 2016 I have been looking at this sitting Santa pattern for a long time and thinking that I would love to be able to cut, but it is above my skill level. After I visited with Scrappile and saw all his wonderful and amazing things that he cuts, I decided that I need to go ahead and challenge myself, a little. This in mind, I decided this afternoon to give it a try. This was after I have a piece break off on a patter that was quite a big easier than this one, but what the heck. can't give up just because I loose one now and then, so I went for it. I cut this one in 1/8th inch BB Birch and use a 3/0 spiral blade. I was so happy when I finished it and no broken pieces. The face area is made up of really small and intriquet lines that challenged me, but I did it and I feel pretty good about it. I just took the photo in a somewhat dim lighting so it came out a little fuzzy but I plan to post the finished piece when I get it finished. I plane on using a red back ground and I may try to make another frame for it, not sure about that, yet. Dick heppnerguy Be_O_Be, Lucky2, Bandito and 7 others 10 Quote

Falcon Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 One to be proud of! I like doing things I am not comfortable with doing (the challenge). Of course if it fails nobody else will ever know ha ha. heppnerguy 1 Quote
trackman Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Just remember a fret is a fret no matter the pattern. Sometimes you just have to go a little slower. Nice job! Don't know till you try. heppnerguy 1 Quote

Casey Jourdan Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Looks great! I always try to have at least one project or pattern that I think I'm not ready for. Keeps me thinking and learning. I've got a clock right now that's challenging me, but that's half the fun. Keep it up! heppnerguy 1 Quote

Rob Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Lovely job Dick. A red backer should really set it off but I'm not sure what you would do about his boots and belt. Rob Quote
crupiea Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 The Santa looks great Dick. Good for you for taking the risk. i an sure you noted that when doing those tiny dangly bits, the place where it will breal is the unsupported areas that are getting vibrations from the blade. for me thats always over the opening where the blade goes into the table. I use one of those playing cards you get from casinos that have a hole punched in the middle of them. Clear tape it to the table and run the blade up through the hole. it cuts that vibrarting unsupported area way down. Casey Jourdan 1 Quote
bandaideman Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Fantastic job Dick. I think you did well Santa is still sitting in the chair and did not fall out on his bum so you know you are considered a good boy but you have to wait until Christmas to see how good. Quote
Rockytime Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Early Merry Christmas! Very nice cutting. heppnerguy 1 Quote
Lucky2 Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Dick, I'm happy that you challenged yourself, and that you got such good results. You did a wonderful job cutting this one out, maybe this will get you to try other things you thought were beyond your cutting capabilities. Len heppnerguy 1 Quote

I am well aware of the zero clearance and I guess I should probably should again use them as when a piece breaks, it is not a fun experience. I used to use them but have not bothered to do it yet on these..I think I should take your advice and do it again as I am now trying to cut more delicate pieces. Dick heppnerguy Quote
