I started out using Flying Dutchman blades and just keep on using them, Mike was so kind and helpful when I called him and the service was top notch. I have not tried the Olson blades so I can not compare the two brands. I like what I have right now so I probably won;t change. I am sure that both brands are good blades.

I mainly use Flying Dutchman #5 or #3 ultra reverse.  I can't put my finger on it but Olsen blades seem clunky to me in comparison to FD but I know others swear by them.  At the end of the day it is a personal choice so you are right to try them both and make up your own mind.

Good luck,

I'm just starting scrolling and have a small assortment. Have not tried them all. FD PS #5 & $7, FD TC #3, 5, 7. So far I've only used the FD TC #7 cutting 1" pine. I also happened to be browsing in Woodcraft yesterday and bought Olson skip tooth #4 and #7 blades. I'm very confused as what works with what. I'm going to cut a puzzle from 1" pine. It is cheap and I have quite a bit of it. I think I'll try the Olson blades to see how they work.

I use Flying Dutchman blades for all of my cutting except for some fretwork, for really detailed fretwork I like to use Eberle blitz blades. The Eberle blades are made in Germany and they are hard to get, but they cut such a nice cut it's worth the bother. I don't recall where I bought my last batch from, it may have been on E-bay. The Eberle blitz blades are fast cutting fret blades, I never checked to see what other types of blades they make.

I've tryed olsen and Flying dutchman blades and the big box store blades.I can tie a knot in an olsen blade as they are so soft. They give me cut time of a few minutes and they are dull. Now on the other hand quality steel ,very hard lasts up to 3 hours which is what i get for the flying dutchman. They are so hard and very brittle care is needed to make them last .Abrupt insertion into your work can break them. These are no rubber band blades. They break on a whim.I miss them an love them to death do us part

I keep close to 30 different sizes & types of blades on hand. Some Olson, some flying dutchman. One offers sizes i need & use a lot of, the other one offers the ones, if that makes sense. When I'm cutting fretwork, & small detail work, my preference is flying dutchman blades because they last longer, & have a smoother cutting edge. On bigger projects, my preference is Olson blades because the larger number blades, #3, #5, #7 have a more aggressive cutting line, & are more accurate in thicker materials. Flying Dutchman has the better of the two spiral blades. They last longer, & are easier to control.

Flying Dutchman all the way. I use to test blades for Mike at one time and any blade except the spirals and puzzle blades were a hit with me. Miss that man. One of the nicest people you ever want to talk to.

He was my personal friend God bless you mike

I have tried many different blades. My go to choice is Flying Dutchmen UR. I will say Mike was a great person to deal with, They messed up one order and corrected it perfectly. When I seen the shipping I felt bad and wanted to pay it. But he wouldn't hear it. He will be missed for a very long time with me. True definition of customer service ! Life long Flying Dutchman blade user.

I started with Olson blades and have never changed -FD blades have to be ordered on line sense no one carries them here and its real nice to just run around the corner sand grab a pack of blades if i run out

I use both. I really recommend trying a few different types, just in case you fall in love.

Something that I have done to see what blades do is to cut the same project with a few different blades and compare. Pick something that won't take days to cut, like an ornament. Find one that has some sharp corners and some gradual ones. Keep track of what blade you use on each one and compare.
