Brian
I have a copyright question. In some of the books that I have been looking at, it explains the copyright. "The patterns contained herein are copyrighted by the authors. Readers may make copies of these patterns for personal use. The patterns themselves, however, are not to be duplicated for resale or distribution under any circumstances. Any such copying is a violation of copyright law" Does that mean that the patterns themselves are copyrighted material and can not be sold or that the items you create using the patterns are copyrighted and can not be sold? I am hoping to sell some of my pieces at some point but I am extremely confused how the copyright applies to the things you create. Thank you all for your help. dj21817
i would say that you can sell the artwork you create from the patterns.but you can not sale the patterns themselves.i hope this helps.
Brian
I suppose each copyright is different. I understand how copyright applies to taking a picture off a website and making a puzzle from it and then selling that puzzle with the picture. But if you buy a pattern from a website for $10 and use it to cut something, I would think that you could use it to create items that you could then sell. Barry5180
Brian, you are correct. You may sell any work created with the patterns from that book. The pattern designers and publisher only make money from the sale of the pattern, distributing or selling copies of the pattern would limit their ability to earn income, selling and distributing the work actually enhances their ability to earn income since other scrollers seeing the work might be inclined to purchase the same patterns. Brian
I was hoping that would be the answer. It seems that this is the way that most would get patterns for the items you would sell. Having some reassurance that I am not going against copyright makes me feel a lot more comfortable. Thanks!
