Scrolling Steve Posted September 26, 2016 Report Posted September 26, 2016 John, I like the dark one best...nice cutting ! Quote
penquin Posted September 26, 2016 Report Posted September 26, 2016 John, like the contrast in the dark one but would get the same effect if you used a dark background on the light one. Maybe look at it with a dark or black paper behind it. Great cutting. jim penquin Fab4 and lawson56 2 Quote
frankorona Posted September 26, 2016 Report Posted September 26, 2016 Both works look very well done. Quote
Debi Shipman Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 I love the black one. Reminds me of cast iron. Quote
Scrappile Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 I started that pattern some time ago, but never finished. Your picture reminded me I have it somewhere. I like the black one best because it shows up more. Great cutting all the way around. Quote
Rob Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Another vote for black here. Nice cut though either way. Rob Quote
Lucky2 Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 John, both pieces look good, and the black one looks best between the two. I think if there was more contrast between the two types of wood used in the natural one, that it would look just as good as the black one. Len amazingkevin 1 Quote
Ron Johnson Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Painted one catches my eye right away. Well done John. amazingkevin 1 Quote
Vott1 Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 I like em both, but I think the black shows up better amazingkevin 1 Quote
Fab4 Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Hi John: I agree with Jim and Len A darker background on the lighter one would make a world of difference Well done Fab4 danny and amazingkevin 2 Quote

heppnerguy Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 I, personally don't care for painting the subject wood because it IS WOOD. and because we are all into working toward making our plain wood turn into something of art and beauty and then painting it, gives it a look as like plastic. I am not trying to give you a put down because you did a very nice job with your work, I am just telling you how I see it in my eyes. So instead of painting your main piece, I would rather it was left in the 'wood' look and paint the backer board black instead. Then you have the contrast needed to make your piece stand out and it still looks like the wood that is really is. Dick heppnerguy Quote
Frank Pellow Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 I'm with several other people in that I think that the light one should be mounted on a dark background. If you did that there would be little to chose between the two. As it is, the black one is better. Quote
LarryEA Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 Unfair... Need better background Look the same to me Quote
Fish Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 Great work on both, I like the dark one. Quote
Ninuninu Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 Both look great but the light one does need a dark background. Have to go with the guys on this. Tony Quote
rjR Posted September 29, 2016 Report Posted September 29, 2016 They are correct to my feeling too. But Dick is right about the wood looking like wood. I use a torching effect a lot , because it really brings out the grain of the wood. The lighter one on a darker wood background would look as good or even better than the all black background. Experiment a little with torching and you will like it. But remember it needs a clear finish of some kind or else, it will follow you around when you handle it. Quote
wombatie Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 The black one, more seeable. Marg Quote
Frank Pellow Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Dick (heppnerguy), you say you don't like paint. How do you feel about dark stain that lets the grain show through? Quote
