Scrappile
I love this pattern by Brichbark. Wanted to do it in cherry wood. I had to do a glue up to get a piece big enough. These pieces I glued were almost the same color and grain. The top piece was a little lighter but only a little. Then when I soaked it in BLO/MS the little darker piece went a lot darker, the top did not seem to change color at all. Would have been kinda cool if I had pieces like this that I could glue up with the grain running vertical, and have the light piece in the middle so that the star, manger and all the way down were light and the dark was on both sides. Oh, well, I will try it again with different wood. bobscroll, amazingkevin, Lucky2 and 2 others

Iguanadon
Granted, my work is animals, so variations in colors is somewhat expected, but I personally like that look Paul. You have to get past the "perfect symmetry" idea in your head and let the wood do whatever it does. Just my 2 cents. wombatie, Lucky2, Gordster and 1 other
Scrappile
Ha, Scott, I have never before been accused of having "perfect symmetry" in my head before... I have been accused of being "totally confused" in the head many times..... Edited September 26, 2016 by Scrappile wombatie

Rob
Paul, I think you can get away with that. It would be worse if the darker piece was at the top but now it looks like a horizon. I do like the effect of BLO but have sometimes found it absorbs too readily in the endgrain of fretwork and sort of bleeds into the wood causing staining around the edges of the piercing. Tung oil does not seem to do this as much but is more expensive so I mainly stick with 50/50 BLO. Beautiful cutting by the way. I cut that once in pine but must do it again in something nicer. Lucky2
Paul, you did an outstanding job cutting this piece out, it looks nice. But, I personally could not put it out on display to sell, it looks flawed to me. For me to sell this piece, I would either have to stain it to one color or paint it white. I'm sorry if you feel this critique is to harsh, but, it is how I see it. Len Scrappile

I think it is okay for home, I don't sell anything, but I will more than likely do it again. Others say they like it so, who knows. I appreciate your comments and all the other comments. dgman
I'm like you Paul. If I don't like a piece I won't sell it. But I must admit, it looks good to me! I have two big shows coming up, and I just don't have time to cut any, but it is on my to do list! Scrappile

heppnerguy
Paul. You are so hard on yourself.. I guess it is the fact that you are a perfectionist. Everything you do it always perfect. Choosing to "always do it right", is a rewarding thing and I have to say that seeing your work has helped me to improve on my own mediocre things. Thank you for the wake up call for myself. That being said, I just wanted to show you how I handled this same wonderful pattern. I went a little out of the box and made mine to be a wall piece instead of a desk or shelf piece. I also put a blue sparkely background piece on mine. Unfortunately the sparkles did not show that well in the photo as it really makes the piece stand out, I think. since I took the picture, I have put on my finish and it came out looking pretty good. I madd this one from 1/8 bb ply and 1/4 inch backer board. Just a nother thought shouly you out of the regular wood you are using..Oh, that Alder I gave you make for really nice plaques too Dick heppnerguy Scrappile and Birchbark
wombatie
I like it but it's a piece that I would keep for myself and not sell it. Marg Scrappile
