Hey Les, that's a great idea, but It seems there needs to be some room behind the fan for the air to go. As I see it, the air will hit wall and come back at you. Also, the fan should stay on all the time as there is always dust in the air, not just when the saw is on.

BTW, nice avatar!

Thanks. I can move the fan to the front of the shelf. However I can feel the air coming around the fan and I can feel the air coming from the back of me so I know the air is moving quite a lot. I never thought about continuous running. You are right about that. I will make the change first thing.

After all the talk about dust control I set up my 2 inch box fan. It comes on along with the saw via the foot switch.

I would move the fan a close to the saw as possible .It only caches fine dust and should be on all the time.My first set up was like a refrigerator box with the saw inside ,really. and a fan was on top an both sides in an efficiency apt.zero dust was in the room.Your fan next to the wall labors the fan to much and can't operate correctly.Love your shop set up.We all posted our shops one day,It gave all of us more ideas,Thanks for showing yours! If you want to leave the fan where it is it will be fine just turn it around that way the air flow will be unrestricted an the dust takes a short cut to the fan straight on.You had the right idea just backward,

Les I have been thinking about doing the same thing. I already have two box fans that I use to collect dust.
