Hello from Ireland!

The Scroll Saw Addict

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to say hello to everybody and say a little about myself before I start posting on this forum.

My name is Marcin Witkowski and I am a Polish national living in Ireland since 2005.

I was on a lookout for a hobby that would allow me to create unique, handmade objects that few others do.

I have a very analytical mind and proper attention to detail.

After many failed attempts at others, Scroll Saw became my absolute favourite thing to do ever since I demonstration video on YouTube by the Woodworking guild of America (I think).

I use a generic, sub €200 scroll saw with variety of blades, but mostly #2/0 reverse skip tooth.

I started scrolling in May of this year.

Anyways, I will mostly post pictures of my finished projects.

The one question I do have is regarding selling the finished product that is based on someone else's templates?

I will not sell a single project until I know that I am not stealing from anyone, so does buyng a pattern online allow me to sell the finished product?

Many thanks for any input you all may have and I hope you have a great day!

Marcin Witkowski

Greeting and welcome onboard!

I did some inquiries regarding copyrights. I had bought several patterns from Scrolleronline and built several boxes. My wife wanted to sell them on her Etsy site so we contacted scroller. They referenced their copyright link at the bottom of their site www.scrolleronline.com/copyrights. They are pretty specific as to what you can sell and how your pieces need to be marked but you can sell what you make from their patterns as long as you don't go into mass production and identify the design holder. I have used white rub on lettering on the bottom of projects and clear lacquered over it. Other (for pay) design holders may have other restrictions so check their sites.

Happy scrolling!

I did indeed consider contacting the website's owner in this regard and am now convinced to do so :)

Welcome to the site.  Visited your gallery and was greatly impressed with the quality of the work.  You are doing great.  As others have mentioned, you are permitted to sell finished pieces of the patterns, just not the pattern itself.  It is always nice to give credit to the designer.

Fantastic news- thank you very much for clarifying this for me.

And also thank you for your compliments about my work - it means a great deal :)
