Dave Monk
Thinkin a bit about Christmas so I made these this past week. They measure 12" in diameter. Do you like the painted or stained. dave Phantom Scroller, lawson56, smitty0312 and 6 others
Lucky2
Dave, I like both of them, why does one have to be a favorite? The painted one looks nice and christmasy, but personally, I like to be able to see the wood grain. I wonder what one would look like, if you tried staining it with a transparent stain? Scrappile
I agree, I like both. Great work. Dave Monk
GPscroller
Love them both, but as usual, leaning to the unpainted one and the wife loves the painted one. Both are winners  Jeff Dave Monk
meflick
I agree, the red paint speaks Christmas but I like seeing the wood grain on the other with the stain. It really would be a "personal" choice. If looking to sell, I would make both ways. Dave Monk
rdatelle
That's a tough question Dave. I like them both but the red looks more for xmas. Dave Monk
Scrolling Steve
Both look great, Dave.....Red is a little more on the Christmas side .....Good work all around!

JTTHECLOCKMAN
Dave you are not going to win here. Both look good as everyone has said. I do prefer the stained one because I do not like painted scroll work. But that is an opinion and we all have one. Now with that said I want to comment on your work. Being that photo is blown up huge when you click on it you get a real look at your cutting. Have to say you are a very skilled scroller and the cuts are spot on. Now if I were buying that piece that is something I would be looking for and you sir past the test with flying colors. Nice work and thanks for showing. Fab4
Hi Dave: Personal opinion: Not crazy about the font used for Merry Christmas Should be easier to read Painted or stained??? I find Christmas items go over better when they are painted Paint the bells silver As mentioned above - your craftsmanship is top notch Fab4 Dave Monk
Birchbark
Very nice Dave, really like the painted one best, gives nice contrast and shows off the cutting a little more. I like the mix of fonts for the lettering. Just my opinion tho, everyones got one. Russell Dave Monk
newfie
Both of them are great.i personality like the unpainted one the best Dave Monk
Dave Monk
I really enjoy getting opinions. It makes me think when I create a project. I like it best when someone says there is something they don't care for. Most of my stuff I make to sell. I always use paint on some and stain on others. I find that the pained do better than the stained. But a few people like the natural look. That is my market. dave
Rolf
I like both, but for Christmas I like the painted one. I would even paint the the text and bells etc. I have used Saman stains that allow the wood grain to show through. Dave Monk

Frank Pellow
I like the red but I also like to see the grain. I suggest that you experiment with a red dye or a red stain on the backer part so that you can have the best of both worlds? Rockytime
I like the painted best though both are beautiful. Having been in the typography business in the past the combination of fonts are interesting. It works for me.
wombatie
I love the natural look except for Christmas things and then I like a painted piece. It does not all have to be all painted, that is why I like your plaque, just the right background to say Christmas. Love the font / fonts too. Quirky. Rob
Great work as always Dave. Personally I like the red one. One thing I don't like (and I'm sure this is the pattern and not you) is the little nibs where the letter H intersects with the C and R. They seem unnecessary and detract from the flowing curve of the C and R in my opinion. That said, you cut them so accurately they don't look out of place just superfluous to me. DWSUDEKUM
Dave they both look good. Both would look great in the middle of a wreath. Thanks for sharing these with us. DW Dave Monk
lawson56
Dave I Love em both,But the painted one just stands out more.Awesome job. Dave Monk
Dave Monk
Rob, Thanks for the feedback on the "little nib". It is me because I made the pattern. I could probably leave those out and nobody would ask where the "little nibs" are. Thanks again for all the comments. dave
