hawkeye10 Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 There is a thread on sanding but I didn't want to hijack it. I have been thinking and wondering about sanding mops. They seem like they could be useful but being new I really don't know and I don't know which to buy. Quote
LarryEA Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 Are you referring to minimops for your rotory tool? I have one that does as good a job as I can do. The rest of my sanding is Orbit sander, Belt sender and hand sander Quote

bandaideman Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 I have been using a sanding mop for the last several years and love it. Using 220grit It is a 6 inch I think. I use it on all my scrolling and other things, The more fragile the lighter the touch. But I like it. LarryEA and Scrolling Steve 2 Quote

Sycamore67 Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 I like the sanding mop and have a couple to use on my drill press. I also use a Mac Mop which is kind of similar but is more gentle. I bought mine from Klingspor Woodworking. LarryEA 1 Quote
don in brooklin on Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 I buy my sanding mops from Stockroom Supply. I bought a cheap drill press from Princess Auto (aka Harbor Freight) for $60 and use all the time. I have the mini mops for my dremel and hardly ever use. Some videos of use at http://www.theonlinewoodshow.com/show/company.php?number=20102&cat=2 Don No affiliation to Stockroom supply but a satisfied customer. Quote
WayneMahler Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 You can make your own sanding mops. Just do a google search and it will come up with free plans. I don't use them and do my sanding by hand or a random orbital sander to remove the fuzzies on the back side. Quote

Make your own with a bolt, nuts, washers an cloth sandpaper. They do amazing work.Google make your own sanding mops or flutter wheels Quote
JimErn Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I got one after it was mentioned here, wouldn't be without it I took an old corded 1/4 inch drill and made a platform to strap it to. Wired in a household light switch, I hang it on the wall and clamp it in place when I need it (limited space or too many things on the work bench) Quote
scrollerpete Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I use sanding mops all the time, I have 3 different grits they do a fantastic job of cleaning up the wood piece. I also use the 220 grit between Tiung oil application. Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I need to make some mops feed up of hand sanding after belt sanding. Google here I COME..................... Quote
tonylumps Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Best thing since sand paper was invented.Remember the smaller the piece slower the RPM and a lighter the touch.I am still looking for about 5 pieces that flew away. Quote
Denny Knappen Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I have a Mac Mop that I purchased 8 years ago. I use it on almost everything as a final sanding. I attach it to the drill press. Quote
Rockytime Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I ordered three 3" dome type mops on ebay. $11.99 for the three. They are 180 grit which is quite coarse but they are cheap enough to try. Hopefully they will work OK. Quote
bandaideman Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Hey dan,,,, What does it attach to? Drill press? Hand drill? Larry I use a drill press with very good results. I do have a dremel and a Craftsman want to be dremel and have not tried mini mops may give that a try too. Quote
rdatelle Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I use them once in a while. I have a four and a six inch. You do have to be have to be carefull with them though, especially on fragile stuff. Quote
Rolf Posted October 15, 2016 Report Posted October 15, 2016 I use the same as Denny from Klingspore, Model MM7204. I use the 180 and 240 grit. I did make my own once, Not worth my time or effort. And I found that type of mop to be too aggressive. All of them need to be broken in before use. I use mine on the end of a motor or on the side of my Sand Flee. Quote
