danny
I would just LOVE to hear from Experienced woodworkers on this subject. Bet many others would also....... Example: Plaque has been Stained.... Also 3 coats of MINWAX Clear Gloss Poly. Want to GLUE words that have ALSO been stained and Varnished to the surface of the Plaque. Would there be ANY SPECIAL glue to use? I know....I could experiment....but just THOUGHT this is a subject I haven't seen here. Thanks for Any Input ..........................Danny :+} lawson56

Scrolling Steve
Titebond or CA would work, and you are right you can experiment and see what works best for you !
Fab4
Hi Danny: What about Gorilla Glue? I always glue the stained/painted pieces then I apply the finish What are the pros and cons of adding a finish before gluing? Fab4
JTTHECLOCKMAN
This is something like the question being asked about the lacquer painted backboard going on now too. There are some that will tell you E6000 will work. It is sort of an epoxy. Some will tell you a Med or thick CA glue may work( either one may work) but my opinion is use a 2 part epoxy. Titebond will not work either II or III That glue is meant to glue wood to wood. Whenever you have a gloss surface between you will run into problems and my choice would be epoxy. My choice of epoxy for any glue ups I do is Systems III T88 I too would have added the letters before top coating with the poly and then you could have used the Titebond products. Good luck Edited October 19, 2016 by JTTHECLOCKMAN hawkeye10
Lucky2
Danny, try using gel-type CA glue, it will work as well as anything else would. The nice thing about using the gel-type, is that you can place as little or much as you want on exact spots. I use a lot of this type of CA glue, I like that you can be very precise where you place the glue. Len
dgman
Danny, as has Been said, you should of glued before your final finish, however you already have what will work. Aleen's tacky glue!
lawson56
I have never tried, for fear of the showing thru,So I always stain or paint last.
merlin
I have used super glue gel on a varnished surface and about 6 months down the track, pieces were starting to fall off. It was the Lords prayer.........and I was pissed.................. Merlin

Aleen's tacky glue! I agree with Dan on this, use Alleen's. I have also used Weldbond with success.
fredfret
Sand the area where the letters will be placed then use wood glue. Take great care when sanding to not go beyond the letters. Most CA glues will cloud areas that tave a gloss finish due to outgassing of the glue solvents. Fredfret Wichita, Ks JTTHECLOCKMAN

danny
Dan (dgman) ....Actually I haven't fully applied the Poly to the letter lines. Have given the back 3/8" BB a couple Sprays of Poly. I have experimented with this and waiting for the Results. Tomorrow.... AND I 100% BELIEVE IN AILEEN TACKY GLUE. Kevin..............That is a Great Tip. I shall be giving this method some thought. Thanks. Merlin.............I FEEL FOR YOU. This is WHAT I AM WORKING ON. "The Lords Prayer" Sure Hate to present it to my Church which I plan doing and say it gets hung and admired and months later some lines start falling off. Sad. Blush! Would make me feel real bad.... NOT GOING TO HAPPEN..............Thanks Everyone....................Danny :+}|
