Our local supplier in England for the Excalibur EX16 is a company called Axminster Tools. I called them this morning regarding the above as to how easy they are to use and how noisy as I live in an apartment. They suggested I call down as they have one set up in their workshop for me to see and have a try on, so I'll be heading down there when I'm next off work. This is the model im looking at.

Regards Peter.

Peter, they are not silent to operate, but, they are a quiet saw to use. I have mine set up in the basement of our house, my wife sleep right above where I use the saw. There's no insulation in the floor between levels, and my wife hasn't complained once about my saw being to loud. Don't worry, she would be up in arms if I interrupted her sleep. So, I think you will be safe using the saw in your apartment.

I only see one thing missing from that saw; I like the blade clamping and easy changing look of it. I like the tension as a knob on top.

I do not see a light, but the magnifying  LED that Rockler sells here for around $50 most of the time is a great light for sawing.
