Mark SW
Just wondering why such a variance in blade cost? Vendor A $2.35 B $2.50 C $5.50 and all kinds of other cost. All the same quanity, brand (Olson) and size. Would you spend more to support local encomony or go with the lower cost online.

I am all for buying local if it's feasible, but not at double or triple the cost.I teach my students to start with Olson's because they are available locally at Woodcraft, but I also tell them about buying online at a substantial savings. WayneMahler
I order where I get the best for value. I have a vendor that I deal with hands down but always look for a better pricing deal, don't forget to add shipping etc.

Ron Johnson
I would think quality of metal in manufacturing blades has a factor regarding price. Why does one manufacturers blade remain sharp longer than another? Are you buying from a retail outlet or online? Again price is going to vary. Myself, quality of blade matters first over price. If the blade, and this applies not only to scrollsaw blades, doesn't cut properly then cutting can be frustrating producing poor results. I purchase online being selection available here is limited and three times the price for what is available. I've only used Olson blades. Quality and service has always been excellent. crupiea
I dont like to pay the shipping so I will just order a bunch at one time so i only have to order onc. Wont be paying 5$ for blades though, not for a dozen anyway. i wont shop locally for them, they just dont have what I want.
Scrolling Steve
If the prices are close(including shipping) I will keep the money local, but like wayne and others have said,if the best value is out of town you have to go with it ! hawkeye10
I buy cheap and buy a lot on line. The sales tax where I live is 9 3/4% that is a big savings right there. How ever I do like buying from my Woodcraft store. They have great service and I like that.
stu
I can only get Olson local and don't like them $6 a dozen bought a load from mikes work shop but just found out about sawbird a Canadian I'll check into Stu
ike
I use Olson's I get them at Medrds at a reasonable price. A little over the internet price but with shipping the cast is close to being the same.at $5 that; is only $0.45 per blade.and I usually get the one blade per project. I can live with that. Bill WIlson
When I first started scrolling, I knew nothing of the various suppliers, accessible via the internet. I bought all of my blades locally and at $5-$6 a dozen, believe me, I used them until they smoked. Once I discovered on-line/mail order sources and their bulk pricing, I never bought another scroll saw blade locally. Places like hardware stores and the big box home improvement stores aren't targeting the avid scroller market. That is evidenced by the saws they offer, mostly low end saws for the occasional user. Specialty brick & mortar stores, like Woodcraft & Rockler are marking all of their products up in an effort to make their profit on every item they sell, because they have such a high investment in overall inventory, they can't afford to give anything away. Mark SW
Thank you for all the feedback. Wonderful responses. Any time I can get 16 doz blades online for $44.60 s&h included as opposed to 10doz at the local store for $42.90 tax not included I will support the true scroll company. Rolf
I am loyal to the supplier that gives me great service, good delivery time and a fair price. In this case Sloans for all of my blades. Can't say I worry much about price.
Clayton717
I order a gross(12 dozen) of blades or more at one time. So I will not buy buy from the big box stores always online. Sparkey
woodchux
Consider most vendors are not equal, and comparison shopping should be one of the first factors - that is are the blades you are buying/using from the same manufacturer, size, quantity, and price, including s & h? On the internet you can place an order and in most cases get the product within 7 to 10 business days - and sometimes even faster, right to your door. Weather conditions, driving distance, and store inventory should also be factors. Adding up each "side" of buying and your time and cost to get blades locally will show IMO the best "buy " for your needs. Be safe. Mark SW
I decided and went with Flying Dutchman after all the good things I read about them. Ordered 14 dozen of various size's and only paid $40.80 which includes shipping. Breaks down to about .42¢ each Thanks for all the input. Sparkey
If I am buying 1 pack of something new I will go to Woodcraft. For my go to spiral blades I buy them from Mikes by the gross.
