BigD
Hi, this is about no.6 project for me. Please be as critical as you, pick as many faults as you can. I've also turned it upside to try a hint of color to see what happens. Yes or no for the color. Fab4, Fish, lawson56 and 1 other
meflick
I myself am too new to give you any critique on your overall cutting. For your sixth piece - I think it looks pretty good. Will you improve with time and practice sure but the main question is do you like it enough to give it to your friends? If so, then they will like it too. Looking at the "hint of color" on the bird and the eggs my vote is no. I think it looks more like "mistakes" or "smudges" that were accidentally left rather than an enhancement to the piece its self. Thanks for sharing. Fab4, Falcon and BigD
DukeNukem
Pattern and cutting are very good.looks to me like red paint? I would say use a light orange around the breast of the bird if you're going to use color nice work thought. Jerry BigD
Fab4
Hi Dave: Absolutely nothing wrong with the way this is cut Looks really good Have to agree with Melanie about how the attempted hint of color Suggestion: If you want color Most of the cuttings have a backer on them Usually black. Use a light stain for your cutting, paint the backer different colors and see how that looks May or may not show enough - if all else fails paint the backer black and move on to cutting number 7 I'd be proud to display this one if I were you - well done Fab4 Edited October 20, 2016 by Fab4 danny and BigD
LarryEA
My only criticism is, it should be posted in Bragging Rights. Looks quite good BigD and danny

BigD
I'm not that happy with color myself, glad it was just a try on the reverse. Maybe if the wood was darker,,,, but that's another try.
hawkeye10
Dave I think you did a really good job. I know that it's better than I can do. BigD
ike
For your 6 th. project it looks pretty good. It will all come with more practice. The main fault is your curved mines, with time you will notice them right away and you will be able to correct those and no body will notice . grading it with your Spencerian I will give your an A+ IKE BigD
rjR
Very nicely cut! I agree on the color; best left out or use a colored background! BigD
TripleJScroller
Nothing really to critique here, it looks great. Not big on the color though. BigD
Lucky2
I like the cutting, as for the color. I don't think you used enough color to make it look right, if the color was darker I think it would look much better. Another thing that would help with coloring the piece, would be to use a green colored backer. Not a real dark green similar to black, but, a green that shows green through the cuts. lawson56
For your 6th attempt,Awesome. The color,I myself don't normaly use color on my Plaques. Perhaps if you did have a backer board it would look better. BigD

kywoodmaster
For your 6th cutting I don't think there is any more that could be got out of it. Looks great. As for color I also vote no. As recommended try a backer board with color. BigD
Sam777
I am new too. I think you did a great job. Is this 1/4 Baltic Brich? what type/size blade did you use? Keep going. It gets better Sam
wombatie
There is nothing what so ever wrong with your cutting. I personally love the color and would like to see the colors just a tad darker, without being bright in your face color. Marg
Phantom Scroller
I think it looks great but is there really 2 b's in Robin?? Only saying . Roly
Birchbark
I think you did a great job of cutting this one. Looks good. I prefer no color i think. But if you were wanting color, I do like the subtle better than the painted backer. I did a real quick look in Photoshop. Here's what i got. I like the all black backer a little better. But maybe all black with the subtle coloring would look good as well. IDK. Everyone is different, thankfully. Russell
The Scroll Saw Addict
Personally, I'd stain the wood to a darker brown to simulate the nest being on a tree and leave the backer nice and bright for contrast, without any additional colours. It looks great in my minds eye, but it can also turn out the other way so practice on the back if tempted ;D I Really like the quality of your cuts! Have a go at something properly difficult next, I'm pretty sure you'll amaze us all as much as yourself Marcin BigD
Rolf
That is a great design well cut! For some thing like this a bit of color makes it pop. The only thing I would suggest is for you to use a better quality Baltic birch ply as it seems you have a bit of tear out on the back. You could also use a backer, in case you didn't. BigD
I think it looks great but is there really 2 b's in Robin?? Only saying . Roly Wondered who would spot the deliberate mistake. This is a gift for my friends John and Emma Robbins, so yes 2b's is correct this time. Phantom Scroller
BigD
I am new too. I think you did a great job. Is this 1/4 Baltic Brich? what type/size blade did you use? Keep going. It gets better Sam Think it's just a cheap birch ply, it's not as good as I expected. In the uk I have to get it delivered, no local stockists. It was described as " laser cut for hobbyists" Thanks for all the comments, when I decide on the finish I will post a pic in the bragging section. Phantom Scroller
Dave I buy 6mm sheets of birchply from Jewsons 8 foot x 4 ft in old imperial size and they will order oak ply and other types. then cut them up.
