I myself am too new to give you any critique on your overall cutting.  For your sixth piece - I think it looks pretty good. Will you improve with time and practice sure but the main question is do you like it enough to give it to your friends?  If so, then they will like it too.  Looking at the "hint of color" on the bird and the eggs my vote is no.   I think it looks more like "mistakes" or "smudges" that were accidentally left rather than an enhancement to the piece its self.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi Dave:

Absolutely nothing wrong with the way this is cut

Looks really good

Have to agree with Melanie about how the attempted hint of color

Suggestion:

If you want color

Most of the cuttings have a backer on them

Usually black.

Use a light stain for your cutting, paint the backer different colors and see how that looks

May or may not show enough - if all else fails paint the backer black and move on to cutting number 7

I'd be proud to display this one if I were you - well done

I like the cutting, as for the color. I don't think you used enough color to make it look right, if the color was darker I think it would look much better. Another thing that would help with coloring the piece, would be to use a green colored backer. Not a real dark green similar to black, but, a green that shows green through the cuts.

I think you did a great job of cutting this one.  Looks good.  I prefer no color i think.  But if you were wanting color, I do like the subtle better than the painted backer.  I did a real quick look in Photoshop.  Here's what i got.  I like the all black backer a little better.  But maybe all black with the subtle coloring would look good as well.  IDK.  Everyone is different, thankfully.  :)

Personally, I'd stain the wood to a darker brown to simulate the nest being on a tree and leave the backer nice and bright for contrast, without any additional colours.

It looks great in my minds eye, but it can also turn out the other way so practice on the back if tempted ;D

I Really like the quality of your cuts!

Have a go at something properly difficult next, I'm pretty sure you'll amaze us all as much as yourself

I am new too.

I think you did a great job.

Is this 1/4 Baltic Brich? what type/size blade did you use?

Keep going. It gets better

Sam

Think it's just a cheap birch ply, it's not as good as I expected. In the uk I have to get it delivered, no local stockists. It was described as " laser cut for hobbyists"

Thanks for all the comments, when I decide on the finish I will post a pic in the bragging section.
