penquin Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 That looks great. Not sure what you did but like the look. Did you replace all the cut outs after coloring them? Interesting. jim penquin Quote
Rockytime Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 That is really a great piece but I do not understand what I am looking at. Birchbark 1 Quote

Interesting. jim penquin That is really a great piece but I do not understand what I am looking at.The cut outs are gone, I just put various coloured cards between it and a backer board till I found a color I liked. Then sealed it to make it waterproof. The frame I made from inch and half square stock. Routed all the outside, routed a half inch channel on the inside so it would hold the frond and back together. Finish is medium oak stain on cheap soft wood frame and not the best birch ply. Please explain Rockytime, what can't you see? Thanks for all the comments. Quote
lawson56 Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 I had to look real hard,The color jumps out,It gives it a 3D Effect.Awesome job you 2. BigD 1 Quote
Birchbark Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 Wow! It really does have a 3-D look to it. Not sure if it is the way the shadows are playing, or the color or the angle the photo was shot, but now that i look at it, i see it isn't any different than any other. Maybe the color is what's doing it. Either way, it turned out great! I know you haven't been cutting long, and this wasn't an easy cut. It looks great! Thank you for taking the time to post a picture of the finished project for us. Looking forward to seeing your future projects Russell BigD 1 Quote
meflick Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 Just an awesome finished project from the pattern Russell did. I really like that "robin blue" color backing you used to help it "pop". I agree, from the photo it looks more 3D as opposed to a scroll saw cutting. I am sure your friends are going to love hanging this to welcome their guests into their home. Thanks for sharing the photo of the finished project. BigD 1 Quote
DukeNukem Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 Very nice work I love the color too but I think I might have used a touch of orange around the Robins breast area. Jerry BigD 1 Quote

That's what I thought I was looking at but not sure. Great work that's for sure. BigD 1 Quote

OK i see it now, believe what throw me off was the shadow from the flash it seemed to make the backer stand out from the cutting a bit. Fully understand now what you did and love it. Thanks for taking the time to go into detail for me. jim penquin BigD 1 Quote
BigD Posted October 27, 2016 Author Report Posted October 27, 2016 Very nice work I love the color too but I think I might have used a touch of orange around the Robins breast area. JerryI did try a little color for the birds but couldn't find a way to give it a very light hint. Maybe I could of tried color after sealing the wood more, might try that way another time.Cheers everyone. Dave. Quote
