Hawk Scroll Saw

I would be gasing the truck up and heading right over if I lived in the area. Here is what they run new.       https://www.scribd.com/doc/62919060/Hawk-Woodworking-Tools-Catalog    The 26 saw is a large saw and I have an older 26"  I am a Hawk fan all the way. Not many parts to break and no problem getting to talk to anyone but most times you can figure it out yourself if you are any kind of mechanically inclined. You see many Hawk saws on ebay and the 26" usually go around $600 and make an offer is usually attached. Now of course condition is always key. In your case this sounds like a brand new saw basically. My opening offer would be $750  Now mind you I have 2 RBI hawks a 220 and 226 but would not hesitate for something that new.

There is a lady in our area who has a Hawk G426 for sale.  She says her husband bought it four months before he died.  I have no experience with a Hawk.  I might be interested if the price is right.  Any thoughts?

my only concern is whats connecting the to arms together in the back, metal to metal, bushings, bearings, etc This is where the cheap saws give out firts as there's no lubricating points

That is no cheap saw and if he bought it new and only had it for 4 months. There is no time on that at all. Be like brand new. That saw is the upgrade to the older Hawks such as I have. When I was sick and could not work in my shop my saws did not see action for almost 3 years.  I have been using them the past 2 + months now and not one single problem and I have already cut many projects on them. I will endorse RBI Hawk saws.

John I was unaware you had been sick. Glad you are better and back in the shop. As you know our health means everything.

Down but not out just yet :)  I really did not realize how much I missed being in my shop but glad to be back and have alot of catching up to do. I guess our shops are like our little sanctuary where all is right  with the world when we are in there and no one or anything can disturb this peace. Even our mistakes or uh-ohs are just blibs. Happy scrolling everyone.

I have a Hawk G4 and an Excalibur. The G4 is my go to saw. The only thing I've ever done to the G4 is I upgraded the upper and lower Blade Clamps with the new style that Bushton uses on their new Hawk Scroll Saws. There is a good video on Youtube for the Hawk G4. Check it out and you can see the advantages of the G4.

Just checking craigs list. Dozens of saws for sale. Mostly cheap and old. But better saws cheap. Examples: 14" PS Woods, mint condition with stand $150, 20" PS Woods used but in new condition with stand $195, 220 Hawk says excellent condition with stand $200, 2 older EX 21 $750 and $900. I am a bit suspicious of the EX's. They appear very old, do not have tilting heads and look totally different than modern ones and the price seems outrageous. I bought my two Hawks for $200 each. One is a 220VS and the other is a mistake. I bought it without knowing anything about scroll saws except that Hawks had a good reputation. I bought it in Colorado springs. The craigs list photo looked excellent. I bought it without trying it. It never occurred it had no motor. I just assumed the motor was inside the chassis. Found out it was made to fit a ShopSmith which I do not have. I did power it with a belt and pulley arrangement and made it a single speed saw. Outside of that it is an excellent little saw. However, if someone with a ShopSmith could use it I will make a great deal. Since then I have read and researched much. I am much better informed. Not smarter, just better informed.

Craigslist is ripe with folks trying to rip people off.  They do not make parts for the older Excaliburs, so that makes their value very low.  I would say the PS Wood and Hawk saws are a good deal at that price, comparing that to the other saws in that price range.

I've been using a Hawk for several years and the only problem I ever had was that the plastic knobs on the tighteners eventually broke, but Hawk sells replacements inexpensively so i ordered a handful in case I ever needs them again. I would definitely recommend a Hawk.
