Momentousangel
Hello from SW Washington. I've only recently started using a scrollsaw... before this I did a lot of yard things with a jigsaw. The truth is, I lost my youngest son the end of June. As a way of trying to keep me from sinking further into depression from losing my oldest and youngest sons, my exhusband bought me a scroll saw to try to help me stay busy. Its nothing fancy but the fact is it is helping me some. I've made cuts I would have never been able to do with a jigsaw that's for sure. I've busied myself making things my sons liked in their memory. I've made a few smaller items for my daughters as well and plan to make them gifts for Christmas that they will treasure for years to come. lawson56
meflick
Hello Valerie and welcome to the Village. I think you will find a lot of helpful and wonderful people here in the village to share your scroll saw adventures with. I am so sorry for the loss of your two sons. As a mother of a daughter and a son, I can only imagine how horrible and difficult that would be for anyone to lose one child, much less two. I will pray that you can find solace in the happy times you had with your boys and know that your daughters are here for you as you all deal with the losses you have had in your family. It was very kind of your ex husband to get you a scroll saw to help you deal with your loss. Sounds like you two have a good working relationship still. That is great. I lost my mom back in April after a battle with Alzheimers. She was only 77. I started working with the scroll saw to do Intarsia work shortly thereafter. I was a newbie to the saw and to Intarsia but have found that I enjoy it and it helps me when I am feeling down about the loss of my mom. It requires me to "focus" in on the task at hand. I pray that you can find comfort as you explore this new art form. We love to see pictures here in the village (and I have been remiss in posting many myself lately). So please, show us what you are doing now with your scroll saw and the yard work that you did/do with your jig saw. God Bless. heppnerguy

heppnerguy
Valerie, Reading your post brings back a memory that I have about loosing our granddaughter to an accident at the beach. It has been the most difficult loss our family has had to go through and even after 15 years, it still is hard. Things will eventually get a little better but never goes completely away. But then, we never wish for the memory of all the wonderful times we had with our granddaughter to ever be gone completely. I can not express the sadness I personally feel from your losses. I think the scroll saw will help you some and keeping busy doing things that please you and others it truly a blessing. I want to welcome you to The Village. I live in Eastern Oregon but grew up in the Portland area. Travis, the person who owns and runs this sight, also lives near you in Vancouver. Travis has posted many great videos on pattern making and other things. I hope you take the time to explore as much here as you can find the time to do. Also I believe it is important for you to log on here, often because you will soon find that the people on this sight are extremely friendly and supportive and if you long on and post comments on other's post, you will quickly feel right at home and before you know it, you will have many new friends, from all over the world that you will soon feel you have known all your life.. Good luck as you explore the world of scrolling. If you have any questions about anything to do with your new hobby, do not hesitate to ask on the forum and you will find the results of such will amaze you.
