whopsal Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 just wondering if anyone has added colour to their scroll saw projects using dyes or acrylic paints Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Yep paints and glitter glue for Christmas items never used dye to messy. Roly Quote
lawson56 Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Sure thing.Like Roly,I have used glitter,craft paint,but not dyes. Quote
MrsN Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 I have painted using acrylic paint, or a wash of paint diluted with water, or a wash of paint with a staining medium. I have dyed projects using food coloring. Mix a fairly strong colored water solution and dip the project in. Others have used RIT Dyes for stronger colors. Spray paint is easy if you just need a single color. Glitter spray paint is great to get some bling on your project. LarryEA and amazingkevin 2 Quote
MTCowpoke22 Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 I have used wood dyes on some of my projects. They allow the grain to show through, but as stated, can be pretty messy. I make sure I have old news paper laid down and wear latex gloves. Quote
heppnerguy Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Some also use air brushes. I have colored with food colors too. Some have worked out ok and s one not so good. Probably ,for me, because I am nor very artistic but fun to try Dick heppnerguy Quote
Bill WIlson Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 I've been experimenting a little with fabric dyes lately. They work pretty well. As others have stated, it's messy, but if you plan for that, it can be readily managed. Quote

amazingkevin Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 just wondering if anyone has added colour to their scroll saw projects using dyes or acrylic paints I've always wanted to try food coloring.Someone here said you mix denatured alcohol in the mix . Quote
Lucky2 Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 I've used food coloring and clothes dye for coloring a few items. The food dye was he easiest to use, but, the clothes dye was the best for deep coloring. Len Quote
orangeman Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 Been using food colors on my puzzles for several years now. I'm still perfecting the technique! bb Quote
Sycamore67 Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 I have used dyes and acrylic paint both with success. I really like the acrylic paints as they are available in a huge variety of colors. You can thin them for a stain. Also easy to mix a little of different colors to get a special color. They also have ones with glitter and ones which glow in the dark. Quote
