LarryEA Posted November 11, 2016 Report Posted November 11, 2016 These type baskets are more than an experience. They are teachers. They put a lot to test. Requires precise cutting. Will be nice to see the finished bowl. Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 I agree with the need for photos in order for us to add anything to this. Not sure what size that pattern is but if you are using multiple pages to make a full pattern that too can be tricky. I have to do that with the mirror I make because they would be too expensive to have full sized pattern made on a plotter. I would not use CA glue on this. I would use Titebond II wood glue for gluing wood to wood. You may need to construct a jig of some sort to hold while glue dries but it will allow you to make adjustments if need be. If you are using CA you need to use a Med viscosity CA as opposed to the thin stuff. That just sucks right into the wood and will not hold well. Post some photos and let us see what you have and are doing. Quote
SCROLLSAW703 Posted November 13, 2016 Report Posted November 13, 2016 a #12 blade on a basket? whew! a feller could scalp a badger w/a #12! Even as a beginner, I'd of went with a #3 or a #5, #7 tops. You'll have a smoother finish cut, easier to follow the pattern, & better looking results in the end. Quote
Joe Duncan Posted November 14, 2016 Author Report Posted November 14, 2016 so far I have completed 3 baskets. Each one a little better than the last one. My butt joints are getting tighter, which makes a big difference. Took the advice and made some jigs for gluing. So I gotta say thanks again to everyone. Quote
amazingkevin Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 so if it is bigger than standard paper it will print the adjoin pages, if that makes sense. So if you want to print something bigger than 81/2x11 paper it would add the other pages to print. If so I can use ms word yes, you just scissors off a 1/4" around each page ,align and scotch tape them all together.I've done project 16 pages or more with it. Quote
Rockytime Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 Yep. No pictures it ain't happnin'! Quote
Joe Duncan Posted November 21, 2016 Author Report Posted November 21, 2016 Yep. No pictures it ain't happnin'! They are coming. For sure it didn't turn out the way I thought. So I just painted them. But what I did find out that pine is one difficult wood to stain and come out looking half way looking good. What I have learned is gluing. Don't wipe when still wet, even it is just drop. I was pushing the glue right into the wood, to which I don't have to tell you what happens when you stain it. I am going to do one more this time, lucky for me I have friend who works in hard wood supply company. He let me have some Philippine Mahogany wood going to give it try. Quote
WayneMahler Posted November 21, 2016 Report Posted November 21, 2016 I used 1/2" pine. thanks for the tip. I sure do hear a lot about these flying Dutchman. I guess I will check out Amazon for the blades. I order the combo crown blades. I heard great reviews...........so If your looking for / into Flying Dutchman blades.
