Fretwork cross

I made the cross with the black background the fall that I started scrolling 4 years ago. Although the first was a good cross for a beginner I think this latest one turned out really well. But have to say looking at the pictures on the computer show the small mistakes in really sharp detail. This one was commissioned by someone who had seen the first one on the internet, I have been getting more and more outside work and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I am also making some custom ornaments for this same person but this is taking away from my own personal projects. I have limited time to cut and when it gets cold I will have to stop for a while. I like the extra income but I also want to make my own original art. Rant over. I hope you like the cross

Thanks for sharing your photos.  I like the cross.  Its nice to be able to look back at our early projects and see the advancement in our skill set.  You can see yours was good and continues to improve.  I guess your issue is one that is good to have, especially if you like the extra income.  Guess the best way to handle is to decide which is more important to you - working on personal projects or the extra income.  Another way to handle is to price your work higher then you have been, will cut down some on the "orders" perhaps and give you more time to do your own projects.  If they really want your work , they will pay the higher price though and give you more $ earned for less projects perhaps.  Only you can decide what you want to do.  Good luck!

They are both nice, but the new one is a LITTLE nicer :)

What kind of wood and finish did you use?

Thanks for sharing

Matt that cross looks great.  As for getting more and more outside work, well we all get that and yes at times it can be a real pita.  It does feel good however to have someone want you to make them something because they respect and admire your work.  You have the ability to say yes or no to any outside work, the choice is yours.  :)  You do great work Matt and I can see why folks would want it.

Both crosses look great, but it is nice to see how we improve our work over time.  I enjoy doing projects for others and selling them.  This helps pay for what I want to do for myself and I enjoy making something that

someone wants but doesn't know where to get it made.  Always fun to see them smile when I give it to them.

Remember the time you use to create something for someone else is good time and you bring a little joy to them.
