Good morning Rob Roy (well, its morning for me still - you would clearly be into the early evening I think.)  My scottish roots would spring from my mother's family through my maternal grandfather, his mother, her mother, and back and back for a total of 18 generations to the House of Stewart to King Robert II Stewart, the grandson of King Robert the Bruce  (so King Robert the Bruce would be his 20th great, and thus my 22nd great grandfather).  My family (my husband, myself and our children)  visited Scotland and Ireland back a few years ago.  I tried to lay claim to my throne then when we visited the castle but because my lineage seems to spring at some point through an illegitimate line (which might explain how they eventually ended up in America.    ) my claims were ignored.         - I can't lay claim to tracking all this down - my sister did and put it all together in a book. She has 9 pages of charts showing the linage directly back from my Grandfather to King Bruce.  It was really interesting to see and read.

 

While we were there in Scotland and Ireland, I realized why so many people from Scotland and Ireland settled in this area of the US when they came over to America.  The East TN area I live in now in particular reminds me a lot of what the Scotland and Ireland areas I visited were like.
