Denny Knappen Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 I made some from pine several weeks ago and thought of using 3/4" Birch plywood. There were several voids, but I think the plywood adds to the look. The patterns are by the late Dirk Boelman and found in CWWC Holiday 2013. I used FD UR #5 blades and the finish is 50% BLO. Comments welcome. Lucky2, Casey Jourdan, New Guy and 6 others 9 Quote

ed martin Posted November 16, 2016 Report Posted November 16, 2016 These look great. how did you not burn the out side. I use 1/2 Baltic birch and use blue tape on both sides and the out sides burn using fd ur no 5. If I use fd ur no 3 it does not burn. I have not tryed slowing down the speed yet. I am using the Excalibur. Quote

Denny Knappen Posted November 16, 2016 Author Report Posted November 16, 2016 Wow, thanks for all the nice comments. I was not sure about the plywood, but I think it works on these. Ed asked about burning. This was not Baltic Birch plywood, but something from Lowes. I had no problems cutting, except for the voids. Quote
barb.j.enders Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 Very nice work - I love the plywood and personally use it almost exclusively. I will have to try to find a copy of that magazine, would love the patterns for myself and that was before I got into this hobby! Quote
Denny Knappen Posted November 17, 2016 Author Report Posted November 17, 2016 Thanks Barb. They are very easy to make. I hope you can find the magazine. Quote
meflick Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 More beautiful work with these patterns Denny. I really like this look with the plywood. I agree, it givens it more of the "ribbon" look to them. For those of you interested in the patterns, but don't have the magazine that they originally appeared it, you can contact Karen at theartfactory. When Denny first shared these back in late August in this thread: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/20554-ribbon-ornaments I knew I would like to try them but also knew that I didn't have that magazine. As a result, I went "searching" to see if there was a way to find the pattern. I reached out to Karen and she was able to sell me the set of patterns. They are not listed on her website but the pattern number is #474. I emailed her through the website's "Contact Us" page found here: http://theartfactory.com/contact-us/ She was very quick to reply and she mailed them out right away. You can contact her the same way about ordering a set. I told her then I would share this information so she would know where/how she was suddenly getting inquires on the patterns. So, I thought I would share it again here in case others wanted to try these but didn't have that magazine and had missed it in the original post. Thanks again for sharing Denny. Clearly they are a hit! Fab4 1 Quote
