Can anyone recommend a good book to get me started and maybe a pattern book also. I've had a scroll saw siting in my shop for over ten years and barely touched it.

I'm in the process of cleaning it up and tuning it so I can start learning. Thanks for any information, Sean

Hello Sean,

I don't think you need a pattern book to start.

Look here in this forum's library and choose simple patterns to start with:

http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/category/2-pattern-library/

Or here at Steve Good's Blog spot. Steve is very well know in the scrollsawing arena and has hundreds of FREE patterns. Or you can buy his pattern books/DVDs and more. Check this out:

Good luck

Sean, you can get all the info you need about scrolling, by participating and asking questions here on the Village. There's other scrolling sites that have lots of info also, you just have to read their forums. As for patterns, you can find some on here as well, just check out the pattern library. All scrollsaw sites have pattern libraries, that's another good reason to check out other sites. As for a good pattern book, there's many, it all depends on what type of pattern your looking to cut. There is one good magazine that you might want to look into, it's called Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts. It's published about 7 times per year, and it covers a lot of scrolling subjects.

Also watch Steve Goods videos on You Tube. I think he is a good teacher. Be aware not to buy everything he has in his shop or that he recommends.
