im disabled and cant afford a decent saw like the dewalt. A little over 200 is gonna have to be my price range for now I was looking at the craftsman 18 in for $219 ive already took back to home depot a 16 in ryobi pure junk. my local pawn shop has a 16 in. delta for $100 but its like the 16 in craftsman i have now a direct drive wonder if its worth it. has anyone used the craftsman 18 in & if so is it any count. Wish i had the money to afford dewalt 20 in but i dont I wonder if anyplace sells them used at a better price. I had and still have a problem with the tension knob on my 16 in craftsman direct drive but have found a way i can still use it for now ive took a strip of duct tape and wrap around the back side over the tension knob once i set tension and so far it holds the tension lol duct tape 9th wonder of the world cant fix it tape it lol just a pain to have to retape it each time anyway im ramling but if anyones used the 18 in craftsman let me know what you think of it . Guess i need to change my name from gone fishing to poorman lol.

I don't know much about the 18". I've had pretty good luck with my Craftsman 16", though. But mine is a different generation than the kind they make now. You can also check out eBay. Craigslist is a good place to keep an eye on too.

Here's some reviews on the 18" Craftsman Scroll Saw.

Here's a review on the Delta 16" Scroll Saw.

Here's a few ebay auctions that's worth looking at too:

i looked at the 18" at sears a few weeks ago. for a $200 and change saw they do not look like a bad saw. i am not sure if by joining the craftsman club if you can get the 10% off on power tools or not. it does not cost to join the craftsman club. sometimes they will give a discount if you apply for sears credit card. i have two 16" craftsman saws out in the shop that i no longer use. i have a delta 18"q-3 that i am using and want to upgrade to an excalibur 30. I don't know about the craftsman. I use a Dremel 1800 and really like it. I've had it about 5 years now and really no major problems. I paid around 240 when I bought it. It gets a lot of use too, I'm hoping I can get a couple more years out of it, until I can afford the Hawk I want.

Gonefishing I've had good luck with the old Craftsman 16" scrollsaw that I used , if I was starting out I would tell anyone to try the Craftsman since it's a lower end cheap saw . But I replaced it with the Dewalt and I'm not telling you anything that it's the cats Meow .....good luck...

i bought the 18" craftsman and returned it the same day i got it kept freezing up on me i then read the reviews on it and they to wernt to good the best thing bout the 18 was it came with a foot pedal. so i then ordered the dremel i figured i had pretty good luck with the antique one that i had hey cant go wrong but i was, it has alot of vibration on higher speeds and the upper arm is now squeeking quit a bit especialy after i been cutting for a while but that was all i could afford thinkin dremel has a descent name come to find out they are now dicontinuing the scroll saws. like it was mentioned earlyer ive seen several scroll saws listed on craigslist in the tool section $500 + saws for 2and 3hundred bucks
