Rockytime
While cutting 1" (actually 3/4") pine I have been using FD #5 ultra reverse blades. I really like them. Question, is there a top and bottom or are both ends the same? Is there a correct or incorrect way to place them in the blade holders? jerry1939
Rocky, FD UR blades have a crimp on the top. If you put it in upside down, it brings more of the sawdust to the top. jerry WayneMahler and Lucky2

Scrolling Steve
What jerry said....one of the many reasons i like those blades. WayneMahler

Rockytime
Many thanks. I noticed the small crimp and assumed it meant something.
Frank Pellow
I really like the fact that they crimp the top of blades to make it easy to see which way is up. Little things like that show that someone at the manufacturer is using the product and/or thinking of customer usability. hawkeye10
You can also run your fingers lightly up and down the blade to see if the the teeth are going down. The teeth should be pointing down.

You can't feel which is up or down. That is why they place the crimp on the top of the blade! SCROLLSAW703
redwine
Not only does the blade pull the wood up, you will also notice that it will not track true and difficult to make it stay on line. For my self there is also a different noise made when it is upside down. Erv SCROLLSAW703
Rockytime
I noticed that the blade would track beautifully. Then I would change blades and I'm sawing all over the place. Also noticed the piece would try to jump occasionally. Thanks for illuminating me as I'm not that bright.
jerry1939
I won't tell you how I know this, because I don't want to embarrass anyone. Unless it's a spiral blade, if you put the blade in backward it doesn't cut very well. Something like pulling a this kind of stunt is also one of the causes of baldness. You find yourself hitting your forehead with the palm of your hand for being so stupid. jerry BBerguson
