Montserrat
Thanks all - it was a fun project, a fast project and because of the sizing it made an high-impact gift. The recipients loved it.

Rockytime
Very clever and very nice. How was the beveling done? A small router perhaps?
orangeman
Monti, More questions You said it was 16" x 16". That means the squares are 8" square. Ok. How did you plane it to 3/4"? My planer can only do 12"+ a little. Seems to me that 1/2" would be better to handle with a wine glass and some food on top, no? Looks like a great idea. bb
Montserrat
They were boards that came in that thickness - bought at the hardwood store. I like the thickness, but one could do thinner, if one preferred.

Phantom Scroller
Great they can turn in to beer mats as well. I am always buying chopping boards just bought one in olive wood which will turn into pens like magic and the surplus bits into crosses.
