JTTHECLOCKMAN
John even top grade ply doesn't cost as much as 13/16" walnut. I paid $5.35 a board foot this week for some. That is an average price for walnut. Not sure what you comparison is. Ever buy walnut plywood??? Can not compare solid boards to plywood for many reasons. Try buying Hondorous Mahagony then get back to me when you are done crying.
hawkeye10
Yea, but with the walnut, you are paying for appearance. BB ply can't compete with walnut on looks. The good plywood can look pretty good. Even the edges.

I think using the good plywood would make some nice looking puzzles and they would be strong. I haven't bought any ply yet nor have cut any puzzles out of ply so my ideas might be all wrong. JTTHECLOCKMAN
If you are making puzzles than plywood is the way to go. It is way more stable. Solid wood does move with moisture and it is just the nature of it. Use some fancy plywoods can work well as too BB which can be colored various ways. Finnish plywood is also very nice wood. NC Scroller
I cut a lot of puzzles and I know a lot of others who cut puzzles. Plywood even high dollar plywood is not the wood of choice for stand up puzzles. The concern is chipping and splintering of the thin veneers at the edges.
