jerry1939
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSBM70Ru5n4 The upper clamp looks like a definite improvement. However, after becoming a "top feeder", I would never go back. Too many tiny holes drilled, plus a few small shapes already cut, made me "see the light." The Jet appears to be for only "bottom feeders." You would need one hand to hold the arm up, one hand to hold the board and your third hand to thread the blade into the hole. I am underwhelmed by that. Just my 2 cents worth. jerry
bandaideman
I will continue to watch the progress as this is used more and more and bugs show up or not. I have always top fed so It would take getting used to for me. I see he did put the arm up and it stayed so maybe won't need a third hand but may need to use your mouth in some copacity swearing now and again if the threading goes poorly. Scrolling Steve
I like what this saw offers....The arm stays up on it's own and I am a bottom feeder so it looks good to me!......Just want to see how durable the upper blade clamp is...will be watching and reading future reviews. rjweb
I have the new jet saw, always been a bottom feeder, same with fishing would catch what's on the bottom, good or bad. As far as the saw goes, I only had a couple of weeks but like it so far, thx RJ Scrolling Steve
Dave Monk
Jerry, I totally agree. I am also a top feeder am not interested in changing. I have bottom fed but for me is much harder. I am going to consider buying a more heavy duty saw than my Dewalt within the next year or so. I would love to test drive an RBI and an EX. dave
jerry1939
No argument with the above comments. However, when top feeding with my Delta, I place my right fingers just behind the blade holder, lift BUT NOT LOCK the arm up. Thread the blade and lower the arm. With this or a Dewalt, you now clamp the blade and tension. Two motions. With the Jet, you pull the arm down and clamp/tension. Two motions. Not having even seen a Jet, it appears to be six of one and a half dozen of the other. It's too bad their bottom holder isn't like other saws. jerry
redwine
Its to bad that the old Delta company had to be bought by Black & Decker and than both of them bought by Stanley because the old Delta's had the best blade clamps ever made. As far as top feed maybe not suited to that, I don't know, I bottom feed and could never get the hang of the top feed. The Delta clamps were the best once you set the right clamping force and it would "cam" over time and again. The patient may still be in Delta's name and can't be used by any other company, don't know about that. Erv
Lucky2
What I don't like about the new Jet saw, is the bottom blade holder. Len
JTTHECLOCKMAN
I do not have the saw and never will but hopefully someday I may test drive one. To me and I am a bottom feeder and love it, it looks like a well built saw for a bottom feeder. The clamps on the bottom is similar to those on the RBI. Just that the RBI is an easier system to load because the tool is built into the arm of the saw and not some awkward position off to the side. That would be my fault i see with it. The arm stays up so that is not a problem. Not sure how heavy that is with all that stuff on there. I know the Dewalt has some heft to it. Just another player in the field. I am sure they will do well once they settle in on a price range. I believe they are still feeling that one out. I do not think you could go wrong with it knowing what it is going into it. I bottom feed and I can't see me getting down where I can see to insert the blade every time I put the blade in another hole or change blades. I am just an old **** and getting older. tonylumps
According to our poll 2/3 of us are bottom feeders. Now I tried top feeding it will never happen for me.With my EX and Hegner when I loosen the top blade clamp the blade stays vertical. That helps me a lot. I do not see that happening with the jet because of the shape of the bottom clam when that spring holder loosens up over time .I may be wrong. But I will get over to Woodcraft to test drive one.Not that I would need another saw in the near future.I hope Edited December 24, 2016 by tonylumps
rjweb
I was at woodcraft today, they had the jet and Excalibur side by side, looking at them close it looks to me if you wanted to change the bottom clamp from the jet style to the Excalibur style, I feel it would just bolt right up. I may order the part from seyco and try it, not a big fan of the jet setup, but like the rest of the saw, happy holidays, thx RJ
