Gonzo
Merry Christmas, Having trouble with the FD UR 3 blades. Blades squeal/chatter big time. It doesn't matter what type of wood, thickness or speed. I've tried blades from different packs and still I had the squealing. UR #5's work fine. My saw is EX21. I am a huge fan of the Pegas modified geometry blades. But I really appreciate the service and speed that I get from Mikes/Wooden Teddy Bear. Looking for suggestions that any of you have. Thanks
dgman
I use FD UR 3 blades all the time without your problem. Do you have enough tension on the saw? I apply as much tension as possible. I'm sure you know the crimp on one end of the blade is the top. Scrolling Steve
Rockytime
I was just recently informed on this group about the crimp being on the top. Good thing to know. I had never even noticed the little crimp until I was told about it.
trackman
I use UR #3 on my ex21 without having that problem. Maybe you got a bad bunch.
stu
Use fdur#3 and #5 all the time no problems probably bad batch I got a bad batch of 2/0 a while back
hawkeye10
I agree with Dan, I bet it's not tight enough. Tighten it up till you can play it like a banjo. Merry Christmas Bfreeman
redwine
I agree with the other scrollers, it has to be not enough tension. I put as much tension as possible on all sizes with the exception of the 2/0 flat and spiral blades, on those I back off just a hair. Since you use the #5 ur you probable know about the crimp on one end being in the top blade clamp. Erv
Lucky2
I use the FD-UR #3 quite often, and I've never experienced any issues using them. Len
ScollSaw Slasher
Just used FD-UR #3 for first time. A heck of a blade and probably going to throw away my Olsons. But I didn't know about the crimp so I probably lucked out in positioning. That's the little tidbit tips that makes this site so valuable. heppnerguy and Scrolling Steve
Gonzo
Thank you all for your help. Yep, I do know that the crimp has to be on top. As for the tension, I think they are tensioned tight enough because I do listen for the "ping". Hopefully not a bad batch. Which leads to another question about tensioning, which maybe should be another thread. If I need to readjust the tension on my EX, I just rotate the knob in the back, right? But if I do that, then the arm isn't parallel to the table, which in turn, won't give me a "true" up and down motion of the blade.
heppnerguy
I don't know about the EX but if I remember correctly, most saws do not run an true parallel on the blade so that they clear the sawdust better which in turn helps the blades to cut faster and better. I could be wrong about what i remember,as that happens to me often as I get older but that is what I seem to recall Dick heppnerguy
hotshot
Check blade travel. On the EX, if you mess with the knob in the back, you can induce excessive blade travel. You can never get all the travel out of the EX, but you can tune it to make it nominal. Of course, if you are not seeing this with the other blades, the blade travel theory get's pretty weak. Unless you are putting the blades in upside down, I can't think of another reason for the chatter. You might try sending a blade or two to another frequent user of that blade on the forum, who could do a quick sanity check. -------Randy
amazingkevin
I had squeling from the dw788 and it was the lower blade mechanizm screws coming out ,2 on each side that was the problem.hope this helps.
WayneMahler
I use UR's pretty much exclusively and never had a problem like this. I would check all the alignments and make sure eerything is set right. Not sure what else to say here, but following this thread for future reference also. rdatelle
I use the ex21 with the 3/0 blade most of the time. Never had that problem. I did have a bunch that would break as soon as I started uo the saw. They were defected. Mike sent me a new batch and they were fine. Could be some bad one's in there. Gonzo
After reading everyone's comments, I have to believe I may have a bad batch, for the simple reason that the UR#5's don't chatter, nor do any other blades. The "ping" is there, so I have to believe the tension is correct. I'm thinking I'll give Mikes/Wooden Teddy Bear a call and see what they have to say. Thanks again for everyone's input.
