BBerguson Posted December 26, 2016 Report Posted December 26, 2016 The Dewalt 788 is up and running. I cut a couple of trees with a Bosch spiral blade. The 3/4 pine was a little easier because I drew the pattern directly onto the boards and the cedar was difficult (at best) to see. Even though the thinner cedar (5/16) did cut easier. It was nice to saw without earmuffs and no real cloud of dust like I get from the band saw. It was a great experience and I'm looking forward to creating new things! Saw is smooth and quiet and I ran it full speed. Bryan Fish, Lucky2, jerry1939 and 4 others 7 Quote

DWSUDEKUM Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 Nicely done Brian. Although hearing protection is not generally necessary when scrolling, dust prevention and masks are a necessity, but you all ready knew that I bet. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the new year. DW BBerguson 1 Quote

Bryan I rarely run the saw above 5 you real have to be in the know to do quality work wide open unless its thick wood which slows the cutting progress down. Quote

hotshot Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 Bryan, as you are exploring, you definitely want to give the straight blades a try for this kind of work. Once you get used to them, they will be much faster, easier to control and you will have an easier time with straight/smooth lines. ------Randy. BBerguson 1 Quote

Jerry I'm just learning about the speed, well, and everything else. I really need to put an order in for some blades because all I have is really little ones and really big ones and need to get some in between. I'm thinking some #3's and 5's would be a good start? rjR Posted December 28, 2016 Report Posted December 28, 2016 Nice start. Build a comfortable "nest"! Chair-light- dust control-- music-- lights --- lunch plate holder etc. Then Cut! My favorite blades supplier is --- http://www.pozsgaidesigns.com/index.htm I know him, he is a great guy and very knowledgeable about anything scrollsaw too. He believes in reasonable prices, quality products, customer service and helping out! I am pleased to call Frank a friend. Quote
barb.j.enders Posted December 28, 2016 Report Posted December 28, 2016 Looks good. I always wear hearing protection. Long exposure is just as bad as loud. Quote
wombatie Posted December 29, 2016 Report Posted December 29, 2016 You are off and running AND now you are addicted, sorry there is no cure except more scrolling. Marg Quote
Jim McDonald Posted December 29, 2016 Report Posted December 29, 2016 Looks really good for a beginner. I would recommend blades other than store brand. Bosch may make great power tools, but there are some truly great blades out there that will increase your love for the hobby due to their longevity and "trueness". Quote
