rjweb
Good evening, I came across a hawk 226vs saw for sale built in 2000, but hasn't been used the last 5 years, everything seems to work fine, just needs some clean up, do you think it is worth 250.00, thx RJ SCROLLSAW703 and amazingkevin
JTTHECLOCKMAN
It is a $1000 saw. Go from there Have to make sure it runs well, has the clamps (can be ordered) bellow is good ( can be ordered) VS works well. Not much more goes wrong with them. They are a workhorse. 125 CSL
hotshot
This saw will be better than any new saw you can get for that price. If you see this saw in person, you will see it is built very very solid and is impressive. It might make a great backup for your 788, however, if you are a top feeder, you might not want to make this your primary as this is a bottom feed saw. Try a few blade changes, and if you are happy with it, this might be a good fit for you. If the serial number on that saw is below 3107, the bottom clamp is probably a barrel clamp, which may or may not bother you. If it is the older model saw, you might check with Bushton to see if the newer style clamps will fit. Blaughn
I paid $450 for one that I had to replace the air pump, thumb screws and are lift spring. I considered that a good deal.

JTTHECLOCKMAN
What I was concerned with it is 17 years old, thx RJ I have a 220 and a 226 and they are 1998 and since I had them I had to replace the upper arm quick release on the 220 once. It gets more use than the 226 but still working like the first day I bought them so do not let the age bother you. I have reservations about that being a barrel clamp though. Mine are the newer style and my saws are older than that saw if they are being truthful on the age. It is a bottom feeder but plenty of room under the arm when it raises. I love my RBI saws and would buy another before I bought any other saw. I do have a hegner and a dewalt and they are not as used as much. Rolf
I had sent you an e-mail from the other forum, I had some questions that you answered here. I have not used an older Hawk with the barrel clamp on the bottom. I bought my G4 in 2005 when they turned into a top and bottom feeder. My Hawk has gotten a very heavy workout in 11+ years, it is bullet proof. The only time I top feed is when I have a very large piece of fretwork. The arm comes up so far that bottom feeding is a piece of cake. The $250 price is a great one, but I would take it for a spin anyway.
