Blades

Jim I haven't tried the new blades and I don't think I can afford to. When I got into scrolling I ask about blades and they said try them and see what you like. I took their advice and I have a boat load of Olson and Flying Dutchman blades. Both have blades I like and use but if I had to go with one manufacture I would go with FD. I know I didn't answer your question but I didn't have anything else to do.   :D

Jim, I know nothing about the Shark Tooth brand of blades, I've never tried using them. The Scroll online blades by Judy Gayle Roberts, aren't all that new they've been around for a few years. Personally, I've never used them either, but, there's a reason for that. I read up on these blades before I settled on FD brand, I read somewhere that these blades were for intarsia work. Which I didn't have a hard time believing, seeing as how intarsia work is JGR's specialty.

Has anyone tried the new lines of blades yet?  I see that Scrolleronline.com has Shark tooth brand and Judy Gale Roberts has On-Liine brand.  I wonder how they compare the Flying Dutchman or Olson.  Anyone care to comment?

i never though about trying anything more than what I've tried .Big box store blades was my staple for years ,then to mikes workshop flying Dutchman's.A few Olsen and one other but i still prefer flying Dutchman.

This my opinion only but I believe that the blades that Scroller  is selling under the brand of Sharktooth  is the very same blade that is sold as Flying Dutchman.  The description of the blades is the same with very little difference. Both blades are manufactured in Germany and I would bet, the same factory.

The difference that I can see is the price. Scroller's price is a little bit higher than WTB. Schroller's shipping is also more than WTB. As with the majority, I will stay with FD although I will use Pegas modified geometry blades for compound cutting thick hardwoods. For myself they just work better than FD. As stated at the beginning, just my opinion!

So Flying Dutchman is a rebrand of Niqua.  Mike didn't carry their entire line, but that was his source.  I think Mike originally had an exclusive deal with them for our side of the pond and I assumed those agreements extended on to the new owners, but I don't know.  I guess that contract could have been with Mike alone, and dissolved once he passed.

In any case, hope you like this bit of Scrollsaw trivia.

If you want to see the Niqua catalog, look for english on the right side:  http://www.niqua.de/downloads/Niqua_Katalog_Holzlaubsaegen.pdf

I'm a relative newbie - so take that into consideration  ;)   I have primarily used the On-Line brand purchased from JGR.  I liked them BUT then, I also got into the saw for doing Intarsia work and took classes from JGR and bought the blades there. After being on the forum here, I have also tried a few Flying dutchman blades more recently to "see" if I could "see" any difference.  I didn't really see any "difference" between the two but that  might be due to my lack of experience with the saw to date.  ;)  :?  I will keep trying them and see if I develop a better "feel" or like for one over the other. However, the on-line brand seem to be good blades.
