The latest dragon has been finished. I'm not sure, but I think this might be the 6th one i've done. It started with an article in a 2000 issue of Woodworking by a Mr. Hutchinson.I loved his design, but I wanted something a little more, well,,,,, dragon-ey.

I used the article as the basis for my design, refining the shape of the body, head and tail, then adding articulated front legs.

This version uses black walnut, maple and cherry. All four legs as well as tail, wings and head move when it is pulled along. Yes, it is a pull toy!

Marvelous piece of work.  The dragon and your woodwork is about as good as it gets.

If I can make a minor suggestion - the eye hook is not up to the standard of the rest of the work - given the quality of of your work I think I would look really hard to find an eye hook that equals the standard you have set - maybe a vintage eye hook? something out of black iron? maybe even something fashioned out of wood? - this is my only comment (please take it as constructive) in an otherwise beautiful piece.

Thanks,

Thanks for the kind words folks.

Sorry DW, no plans. I made sketches and then templates for my design. And even still I sometimes tweak a template here and there from one build to the next. I can tell you that counting the axles and axle pins there are 44 pieces to this little critter.

Well if you ever do sit down in the middle of a very cold winter day and decide to do up the drawings I would be happy to purchase them.

I do not want to make toys because I don't want to compete with the toy makers I know, but this one I would make an exception!

You did a marvelous job Dan. You have every right to be proud!

Dan, this masterpiece is amazing, it looks so nice. Like the others, I would like to make one of these little fellows. So, if you ever decide to make the pattern available, I'd be happy to pay for it.
