I have a chance to buy this tomorrow at an estate sale, this guy was a popular guy for his scroll saw work.......he has passed and now his family is selling his stuff..........Is this a Hegner scroll saw? What is it worth? What would you pay? Give some feedback. I am very happy with my DW, but sometimes you think you need an upgrade. Thanks as always.

Yes it is an older model. It is not electronic variable speed (belt drive) I also does not have the blade tension release up front. If it were me I would not buy it.

It would not be an upgrade technology wise.

That said I would definitely go to that estate sale, who knows what you will find, especially wood.

Hi

That is a hegner, but as Obsessed scroller said I would not buy it. I have an sv18 with variable speed and quick blade clamp and foot switch. I love mine. I got mine new on craigslist for 500 bucks about 10 years ago and it is still running strong.. Look for a hegner, they are a great saw but you need the quick blade clamp and variable speed for sure.

I have this saw.  It is a polymax-3 and new ones sell for over $3000 now.  I would buy it for $1000.  This is the best Hegner offers.  Parts are available if needed.  It requires a stand and I suggest it be anchored to a concrete floor where possible to reduce vibration.

This saw will out last ANY saw out there.  I have a different Hegner  that was made in 1986 and it works well.  I have a polymax-3  that I bought new in 2008 and use it every day now for eight years.  Hours and hours seven days a week.

I bought an 18" Hegner at an estate auction for $80.  Even though it was about 20 years old, it had seen little use.  I bought new bellows, to replace the cracked blows on the machine and I ordered the Hegner stand.  The machine has been wonderful.  I also have a DW788 with stand, which I purchased in almost new condition, on Ebay for $300.

It was amusing that as I was bidding at the estate sale for the Hegner an older gentleman approached me and whispered, "You know what you are bidding on don't you?"  I smiled and said, "Yes."  When no one raised my $80 bid, and the auctioneer said sold, the gentleman smiled and said, "You got the deal of the day."

I don't know about the particular model you are looking at.  I do know I'm delighted with my Hegner.
