Dewalt service center

I was blown away today when i received a call from the local Dewalt service in Greensboro NC about my scroll saw. I took it in for some repairs right before Thanksgiving and was concerned with things I had heard about their service work. I pick my saw up shortly before Christmas and used it some through the Christmas holiday. What i had heard was starting to come turn. I was still having the same issue as if it was never fixed. Took it back.

Call i received today was my saw was ready, I asked what the problem was and what i was told blew me away.

They gave up on trying to fix the issue so instead fixing the saw, they gave me a brand new 788 still in the box.

Moral - don't a ways believe what people say about a service company.

Now i just have to unpack the saw & set it up after i finish re-designing my shop

All grass is not green.  Had a friend take his Dewalt type 1 in for a problem.  The motor had burned out after years of heavy use.  Instead of putting on a new motor they gave him a new Type 2.  Half the screws were loose, The table tilted forward 1/4".  The new machine lasted just over 6 months and failed (bearing failure).  It is now a boat anchor as it only came with a 6 month warranty. .

I am glad your getting a new scroll saw but I really don't understand why your old saw couldn't be fixed. There just isn't to awful much to go wrong with a scroll saw. They should easily be able to fix anything that is wrong with a SS. Maybe this is the reason they have such a bad reputation for fixing their products. Now you might have to deal with whats wrong with your new saw. I hope you have good luck with it. Here is a four part video on how to fix a DW788 saw. Even if you don't want to work on your saw this video will educate you on how it works and how simple it is to work on.

If y'all remember I took my DW788 back to Woodcraft because it was making noise right out of the box. Woodcraft had an EX16 so I bought it. Most of you like me read at least the start of every thread posted here and there are several threads of people having trouble with their DW 788's even after sending them back. How many threads do you read about an EX going bad? I really think it's not so much the quality of the saw but it's assembly. What I mean by that is very cheap grease and not much of it. Also to some extent the bearings are cheap. I hate that DW is building junk and selling it for a high price. I bet that it wouldn't cost $5 more to put good grease and good bearings in their saw's.

I wonder if Travis would have ant influence with DeWalt to get them to do better? I know on the "Router Forum" they have helped solve some woodworker problems. The word gets out about problems on forums like this one their sales are going down.

PS  For those that have good 788's and are happy with them I am happy for you.
