Travis
I was wondering how many people dimension their own lumber as opposed to buying it pre-dimensioned. Why or why not? I'm just curious.
Clayton717
I buy alot of my wood already to planed to the thickness. I buy most from a local shop that makes custom trim and such. they sell all types of hardwoods domestic and exotic. Sometimes I will run it through my planer, if I need thinner material. Travis
Does it come in standard sizes? I wish I had something like that near me. I buy a lot of oak and poplar from BORG mostly because it's predimentioned. I have a bandsaw and my dad has a jointer and planer, so I could resaw. But I haven't made that leap yet. blame
depends on the species soft woods(ie, pine spruce, fir) other then ceder i'll buy from the BORGS. hardwoods i tend to have sawn for me from the log by local sawyers but that will change by next year if all goes planned cuz come next tax time i'm going to purchase a swing mill(brand X mills) i already have a 13" planer and 6" jointer so i dimension my own lumber blame

dankc908
I've thought about it. In fact, I almost bought a planer this week until my wife and I decided that I needed a better table saw more than I needed a planer.

The table saw is the heart of most workshops! Jointers and Planers are those "nice to have" tools. I think a tablesaw is a "must have" tool.
