Gonzoloco
I purchased a Craftsman "16" scroll saw from Sears and I was wondering if anyone has one and can also tell me how to stop as much vibrating as possible. Any advise would help. Thank you in advance for your help.
JTTHECLOCKMAN
Sell it. Had to say that. Did the saw vibrate as much as it does now when you bought it??? Is that your first saw??? Many people buy inexpensive saws and then find out all the vibration and difficulties associated with changing blades and such that they get discouraged and walk away from a beautiful art form. You can try the rubber mat under the saw to dampen it. Making sure it is mounted on a sturdy platform or stand is a help. Make sure the legs of the stand are flat on a solid floor. Any movement from the base will transfer up to the saw's table. If the saw did not vibrate as much when you bought it it maybe the bearings are starting to go. Other than that I can not help but wish you luck. tomsteve and Sparkey
SCROLLSAW703
first I would ask how long you've owned the saw? the next thing I'd say is don't sell it yet. if you haven't had the saw very long, take it back to Craftsman for either your money back, or a replacement. Dan
Mount it to a heavy stand or bench. Rubber mat between the saw and stand will absorb additional vibration. If there is an issue with the saw then I'd say take it back to the store. If you can't take it back, take your time to see if you can overcome the issue. There are a lot of folks here who have the wisdom to help. ike
On all saws I have ever bought I have put a piece of heavy rubber between the saw and the heavy base i use. It always helps the vibration. If it don't Take it back to where you bought it. IKE 125 CSL
hawkeye10
Nick I can remember when Sears had quality tools and very good customer service but now not so much. It's been at least five years since I have even been in a Sears store. If it were me I would take it back and get my money back then start looking for a good scroll saw. I am sorry your having trouble. SCROLLSAW703
rjweb
Talking about Craftsman, I just read that Stanley / Black n Decker is buying the craftsman name and will control their tool line, now it will really be krap, RJ SCROLLSAW703
Ron Johnson
If you haven't had it long Nick I would #1 return for a refund #2 have repaired under warranty #3 check manual or google vibration issues and #4 try as above: bolt to a solid stand with a rubber mat between saw and stand. I started scrolling with a Cradtsman 16" and it suited my needs at the time for over a year. A little further research should solve your issue. hotshot
Concerning B&D buyout of Craftsman, Craftsman is pretty poor quality already. I think of them as the expensive harbor freight. At one time, they made some pretty solid stuff. I'm not sure how Craftsman descended to where they are now. SInce Black n Decker also own Porter Cable and Dewalt, there are possibilities the line could improve. I seriously doubt it get's worse. Concerning the Craftsmane scroll saw, I think this model is quite a bit better than the common harbor freight, ryobi, and other saws in that bloodline. I will echo the sentiments above, if vibration is your only complaint, I think you can fix that by bolting it down solid to something heavy. Even better saws have excessive vibration without a solid stand. Edited January 26, 2017 by hotshot SCROLLSAW703
amazingkevin
you'll more than liklely find that the connecting link is wore out.No way to keep it lubed. It's the link that connects the top arm and bottom arm in the back of the saw.look at it in "replacement parts ,com"
125 CSL
I have a porter cable, had to add extra weight to keep the vibration down.
EarltheScroller
My past experience with vibration is to bolt it down to a heavy base. Many people find the pads help but I think the best to bolt it down solid to something that doesn't vibrate. Some people have actually bolted it to a base then put sand bags on the supports.
