hayu Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 I have not scroll sawed in 8 years so far this is what I have learned. 1. Darn these lines are thin. 2. You now have bifocals use them and a magnifying glass. 3. Saw dust in your drink is a good thing its just fiber. 4. It's low c and not high c. 5. Make sure to feel the whole blade on a reverse tooth blade it works better. 6. So what if the T broke off. 7. Nothing I do is going to hang in the Louvre in France. But it might in the local bar. two saws Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Ah yes, the art of relearning and wondering why we brothered to try it once more!! LOL!! Ervin Quote
hayu Posted March 20, 2010 Author Report Posted March 20, 2010 Here's 3 more for an even 10. 8. Blade lube on the pattern is Not a good idea. 9. The saw blade works better if the teeth are faceing forward and you didn't file them down. AND !0. If the saw breaks don't take it to the shop that says "Whats a scroll saw.". Quote
NiTay614 Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 And in the process of gluing make sure not to glue yourself to the project!!! Watch the sander with your fingernails, mine are all filed flat and diaganally to the right side. Quote
Helenm2807 Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Also, If you're cutting small stuff that you need to keep - number the pieces - DON'T assume you'll know where they go afterwards - when you drop a piece on the floor, check where the corner of the scrollsaw is BEFORE you stand up or you'll find it with your head Quote
juvy Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 that's reminded me..... here's another one to add: every so often do broom/vac your floor..... makes it much easier to find those little escaped pieces! Quote
NiTay614 Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 when doing the cleaning of your saw and the vaccume hose becomes clogged, never blow through it when it is pointed towards your face. Quote
dankc908 Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 A scroll saw won't cut you but it makes for a nasty burn! Quote
jerrybritner Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Also,If you're cutting small stuff that you need to keep - number the pieces - DON'T assume you'll know where they go afterwards - when you drop a piece on the floor, check where the corner of the scrollsaw is BEFORE you stand up or you'll find it with your head When I first got into this about a year ago, a well versed scroll saw veteran wrote in an article two things that stuck with me. And I might add make my life on the saw more enjoyable and less stressful One pattern lines are only suggestion markers its OK to get off line. Second mistakes add character to the piece. Only you will know the error of your ways, unless you point them out, so sit back, breath, sip sawdust tea, and enjoy this art form to it fullest. Pa Pa Quote
dankc908 Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 There are no mistakes in scrolling -- just "design opportunities"! Quote
